The Confessions Of... series highlighted just how shoddy & malfunctioning British engineering and electrical goods were during the 1970's. Every time Robin Asquith had sex in a kitchen, the kettle would over-steam, the blender go mental and then explode, the washing machine work itself up into a lather and then leak all over the floor. If he was having sex in a car the windscreen wipers would go into overtime (whilst it wasn't even raining), the horn would have a life of its own and the headlights would flash on and off. No wonder we import so much thesedays.
