As I recall it was his gay chum who manipulated Mimi's melons; Bryan was far to zen-like for such unprofessionalism.

Great there goes my 10 year fantasy that I was an ozzy boob wrangler.
Here goes:
Looked fantastic for 98% of it. A few dodgy CGI moments (those f**king Scutters), but it the style was lovely.
The characterisation was nearly back to being bang on (after Craig Charles went off the boil in VIII)
Some nice jokes (mainly from Chris Barrie)
And a good plot - even though I wanted to hate it.
But:
Red Dwarf is first and foremost a vehicle for comedy, and it's a shame that if it does come back, that Naylor shifts the goal-posts to turn this into a 80% sci-fi show.
Overall - better than I thought it would be. Better than all of VIII, and most of VII. But nowhere near I to VI.
It was Ok in my opinion nothing more.
I think the ending saved it.
Maybe it's had it's time, It's definitely jumped the wormhole.
I think, if it was to come back for more, it just needs an extra funny writer and a tighter hand on the rudder.

I wouldn't want a new writer. It'd be Paul Alexander (as with 7 and 8, and the terrible tie-in books) and it ends up coming across as just a bad parody.
I think Red Dwarf always had the potential to fall to bits. Only 4 people in the universe, a future show that always referred back to the 20th century, few female characters. So it's weird it lasted and did so well for so long. But I think it didn't need much it to stop working.

Well, a good extra writer. Or a script editor/producer who will kick Naylor a bit more up the arse. Or Rob Grant to come back even, which I know is never going to happen. It just feels like, if it's just Naylor at the helm, you worry there aren't going to be enough good laughs. Having said that, I did enjoy the specials. But they were lacking in laughs.

And imho Kochanski was just rubbish when she came back.
How did Rimmer get inked?
Also weren't Lister and Rimmer from earth in the 20th century anyway? Wouldn't they know what a telephone box was, what coronation street was, how to drive a car etc?

Lister threw the severed tentacle at him.
And no, Rimmer and Lister were from the 23rd century.
