Respect agenda. Page 3

I know that a few people have defended this already, but it absolutely infuriates me when people assume that teenagers and other younger people automatically have a lack of respect to go with their lack of years. We might well be percieved to be in the minority if we're polite, but my friend Luke and I get to the point where we jokingly fight to let people have our seats on buses and tubes; and my brother sparks up conversations with people at bus stops, just to talk to them about the weather or how long they've been waiting, and if they'd like his seat. I think that people of all ages can be disrespectful, and that it's disrespectul in itself to assume that people all of one generation, occupation or section of society are automatically rude themselves.

You damn kids should only speak when you're spoken to! ;)

Sorry, DaButt, sir. :$

I was wandering more about inherent unearend respect. Little things like not sitting on the disabled seat when the bus is crowded, or getting up if someone needs the seat more than you. Or something as simple as not pushing to the front of a queue.

I have recently started reading the Daily Mail.

But I am certain people used to queue to get on buses more.

Now to write another sketch about Satana and abortions.

I bet Roscoff and Curt would be ace in a sitcom about 2 teachers; one a oung Canadian transfer to Wales, the other an embitterred alcoholic bear.

Oh Canada, it's unbearable?

Why shouldn't you sit on the disabled seat when the bus is crowded?

Daily Mail-fascist

And I've just written the first episode and sent it off to be rejected by writersroom. Curt you're in a pink leotard by the way.

And finally.....you will see more consideration for others shown by the older generations. However I'm pretty sure that's not a modern phenomenon

Edit- You are quite right Scatters, I shouldn't label every youngster because my own two teenagers are respectful as well. I've seen with my own peepers.

That's better. Here's a penny for some candy. What, you can't buy candy for a penny anymore? <shakes walking stick at the sky>

DaButt your offering a young person candy?
I'll expect to see you signing the sex offenders register on Tuesday!

Respect doesn't just apply to kids, that's kinda obvious.

I sometimes wander if social workers were respected more and respected some of their clients less if some of the more awful abuse scandals could have been avoided?

You're missing the point too, and being incredibly patronising and underestimating children.

Not really.... (not *intended* anyway, just voicing a point of view as others have). Patronising is your opinion, but where have I underestimated children? It's my opinion that at that age, in education, they should do as they are told. Irrespective of their personal development or individual capabilities, at Primary school they are not only learning the fundamentals but how 'schooling' works; Primary school turns them into 'pupils'. The little darlings will have all the time they need to develop and form ideas and opinions as they grow into teenagers and adults over the next decade, but Primary school is where they get their first taste of the student 'template'; they start to learn how to learn. 7 year olds shouldn't be reacting negatively towards a teacher at all. It would have to be a spectacularly bad teacher to lose the 'respect' of children at that age. At this age they should be a 'blank page'. I think that is what teachers expect, not respect as a 'divine right'.

It's not an issue of respect; I'm not sure that I ever contemplated who I did or did not respect when I was a kid.

Quote: Aaron @ April 10 2009, 7:29 PM BST

Oh, and respect doesn't need to be 'contemplated'. It's subconscious.

Isn't that the very point I made...?

Where's Chipolata? Shouldn't he be piping in with teaching young girls respect with his cane or something?

I see you're going for accurate characterizations then, don't forget my Dildo helmet and Yvon my one eyed beaver side kick.

You implied that it's not to do with respect because kids don't consciously reason with respect in the same way that adults can/do. But if that's not what you mean, then I withdraw that part of my reply. :)

And I'm the crusty old headmaster,

Roscoff! Have you been shitting in James Wood again? And why has Curt's bicycle still not got a saddle?

And why has Curt's bicycle still not got a saddle?

Because that's how he likes it.

I'm in a show? Good call me when the man juggling dead puppies has finished.

They were living when I started.
