Formatting Question

I've got a scene where two characters are sat in a canteen and they're talking about someone in their office. The action then briefly cuts to the office to show the person they're talking about. The action then goes back to the two characters in the office. How do I format this? At the minute I've got something like:

-------------------------------------

Scene 2

Int. Canteen

Simon and Davis are sat at a table. Simon is eating. Davis has a cunning look on his face.

Davis: Blah blah blah.

Simon: Blah.

Davis: Blah?

CUT TO: Int. Office. Continuous

Sandra is typing furiously away at her PC.

CUT TO: Int. Canteen. Continuous

Davis: Blah blah!

-----------------------------------------

Now, is the 'continuous' bit right and when it cuts back to the canteen, can I go straight into the dialogue or do I need to write that the two characters are still at their table?

Thanks!

I would do each location as a separate scene. When you return to the canteen (the third scene) I'd write in the 'scene action' "Simon and Davis at canteen table" - or "Simon and Davis at the table again" -whatever feels right.

Of course, you probably won't believe/listen to me - but I'm paying a lot of money of to learn this sort of thing at the mo!

That's fine I think.

As long as it looks like a script, and it's clear what you're doing - it's fine.

Though I think you need to put some jokes in that little excerpt there. I felt the dialogue was a bit cliched.

You don't need the CUT TOs imo.

Well, it is a CUT TO isn't it. So I personally would keep them in.

Every scene is a 'CUT TO' isn't it? And they don't need it. But like I said no one's going to take any notice of me..... :)

Thanks for the help! The fact that I've not put the actual dialogue in is perhaps why it doesn't look like a CUT TO:

I think I'll leave it as it is. It's not life of death.

Why so downtrodden, Dolly?
