Organising a performance?

I foolishly said I'd help a charity put on a weird performance thing, and I was wondering if anybody knows how to:

(1)get hold of free stock footage of stuff like World War I and the Jazz Age - essentially visual padding.
(2) and how you go about sourcing music for a performance? I.e., how do you easily track down who owns the rights to a piece of music?

Any help much appreciated.

If its a theatre thing Chip I would just go ahead and use what you like, very unlikely anyone will ever notice or care much if they did.

It's outdoor. But what if we film bits of it and shove those bits out on the web?

But do you know where I could get free stock footage? I'd ask Ed wood, but I don't know his email. :)

Chip, in general I'd agree with what Marc said. However, if you're particularly anxious about it I think these are the people to contact re rights and stuff:

Cheers for the link. I'm not anxious for me, but they're nice people I'm helping and I don't want to land them in any hot water.

Nice people!? How did you meet them? Is one of them hot or something? ;)

Then don't offer to make the tea. :)

I'm sure if it's all totally for charity no one will be bothered.

Trust, charities contain some of the big arses on the planet (I should know, I work for one!). And people can be incredibly arsey in how they deal with us.

(And isn't tea making women's work?) :)

I never make tea. Guests have to make their own at my house.

I suppose it depends on the charity; guess no one's that sympathetic to Paedos for Justice for example... :)
