What to send?

I know this has been covered by separate posts over time but I'm putting them here together as I can't find everything I need.
I've just completed my script and will be sending out to production companies and writers room next weekend after some polishing and printing.
What and how do I send:

1. Script - What is the best way to keep it together? (I was going to bind it, what looks most professional?)

2. Covering letter - What should this include? Should I tailor it for each individual company? Is there a standard template or word length?

3. Synopsis - Should I provide synopsis for six episodes? Should I leave it until they decide they want to see more?

4. Treatment - Do I need to send a treatment if I'm sending a whole script?

5. Contacting the companies - Should I ring and get a name to send to first? Should I just find an address off their website?

1. I'm not sure whether binding is a good idea, actually. I think the advice I've had is unbound.

2. Shortish, though if you can tailor it, that's good.

3. I think brief descriptions of episode ideas rather than full synopsis.

4. Probably should. Try and make the whole package relatively tight.

5. I'd go for website.

1 - The script. I use those long black triangular things that slide over the edge of the paper, holding it together. I think binding would be find, as long as it's easy to flip through.

2 - Just say who you are, what you've done, why you're sending it to that person (make them feel nice) and you hope they can help. Don't tailor it, just change the names on each one. That's all I did.

3 - No, don't bother with a synopsis.

4 - No, don't send this either. The script should say it all.

5 - Get a name, and fire it off to them. It's fine.

Send a synopsis of the overall idea of the sitcom, but don't bother sending each episode's synopsis, but you could mention that you have them if they require them.

So, where's the best place for a first-timer to send a script?

To anyone who'll read it.

the advise I have always had is that scripts should just have one tag in the top left hand corner. Editors are not impressed with fancy binding etc, they just want a good script

Paper binders - the BBC use these:

Covering letter - Keep it short and to the point. Nobody's interested in your cv or whatever until they've read your script.

Synopsis - include them if you want but keep them to a paragraph each. A very BRIEF overview of what happens.

Treatment - no you don't need to send it if you're sending a whole script.
