What did you get it at?

Anyone know when/where[i] Le Melos[/i[ came a cropper?
I saw the other one unseat his rider, thank you very much!

Le Milos finished. Not too sure where 15th was it?

You said you had £20 each way:
Why did you only get £26 back for a non-runner? And, if you did, how are you "already a winner"? Surely you're £14 down on the deal. I'm confused.

Because I had it on in separate bets and cashed out on one when I realised I'd got the tip muddled up with another horse, as the trainer's name was different. It was too late to pull the others. I'm a winner because it saved me losing (another) twenty odd quids. That help?

Got placed on the first three but still lost money, as usual!!

10th it turned out.
I'd have been more excited if I'd known -swear to God he wasn't mentioned once after the off.
i wonder if it's a funny pronunciation - because I heard plenty of mentions of horses that came after him.
How peculiar?

One horse put down - it would be interesting to know why.

10/1 in the morning.

10/1 in the morning.

It was 8's at the off, I think - so, well done.

Hello Lazzard,

I'm not sure how to pronounce it but it was pronounced "Luh Mee Loss" by the commentator.
Approaching the second to the last fence, the commentator mentions the leading five horses and says, ". . . behind these, Le Milos has moved through into sixth place."
After jumping the second last, he actually went into fifth place between that fence and the last.
As he approached the final furlong, he was in ninth place (see pic below).

As the leading horses cross the finishing line, the commentator says, " . . . finishing as well - Le Milos."

Hope this helps.

I had 10/1 at quarter to three
put a bet on in memory of my dad as well who liked a flutter here and there, Le Milos each way
as my nephew Milo is one of his grandkids he never got to meet
And like most of his bets it came nowhere bless him

It was like the film 'Day of the Dead before the off. Pink-shirted zombies trying to get into the mall from every direction.
I loved that a lot of local people came down en masse to shoo them off.

........................ shoo them off.

Shoo them off? How quaint. 😉

That was the horse I heard my tip on but got it muddled up with another. I've never been very good with names, even get those I've lived with wrong, which is possibly why I live alone. One horse dead in GN, two in the other races. 16 killed in GN since 2000, that's less than one a race. 46 killed in the other races, with mostly much shorter fences, infact the races I watched yesterday were hardly fences at all, they were just skipping over them, not jumping.

So in rough conclusion, it doesn't seem to be the fences which are the main killer but possibly the length of the races and the amount of runners, as I believe very few horses die in races of less than ten, jumps or not. Someone on the radio said horses get very stressed in much larger groups, leading them to make mistakes at jumps. What no one has explained is why what happens every year, several riderless horses continue to jump the fences when they don't have to, again negating the charge the protesters make of horses being pushed beyond their will and limits.

And these people are zealots, they won't stop at the GN, they want all sport involving animals banned, including fishing.

Hill 16 died at the first, as it happens - but I think you're right about length of race and the crowded field.
I think Jump racing - certainly the longer races - will get wound up in the not too distant future.
It's now only allowed in one state in Australia, and certain states in the US.
I don't believe it's cruel - but I do believe it's dangerous.
Maybe it's had it's day.

I don't really understand why making it a shorter race, or smaller field, or less jumps etc is seen as such an outrageous thing to some people. The pomp and spectacle would still be there, just hopefully less horses dying.

I guess the enormous field is what makes it 'special'.
If it was, to all intents and purposes, just another race, it might nor be such a money-spinner.
But you're right, if they made changes, we'd soon get over it.
