The Dog Whisperer

EXT. A STREET - DAY

THE DOG WHISPERER walks down the road addressing the camera.

CAPTION: The Dog Whisperer

THE DOG WHISPERER
We're here in leafy Middlesbrough to meet Oscar, and his owner Gary.

CUT TO:
EXT. A BACK YARD - DAY

Shots of lovely dog OSCAR and his owner GARY playing fetch.

THE DOG WHISPERER (V.O.)
Oscar and Gary's relationship is just fine, apart from one little problem.

CUT TO:
INT. LIVING ROOM - DAY

We see Oscar enthusiastically humping Gary's leg, as the Dog Whisperer looks on.

GARY
Stop it! Pack it in! No Oscar! Oscar! Bad dog! No!

Oscar humps away, oblivious.

THE DOG WHISPERER
It's obviously time for me to step in.

CUT TO:
EXT. A BACK YARD - DAY

THE DOG WHISPERER whispers in Oscar's ear. We can't hear what's being said.

The Dog Whisperer pulls away.

THE DOG WHISPERER
Got that?

The dog wags its tail.

CUT TO:
INT. A RESTAURANT - NIGHT

Gary sits at the table. Wine is being poured into his wine glass. The bottle is held by a paw.

Oscar sits opposite Gary. There are candles and lovely food on the table.

The Dog Whisperer walks into view and addresses Oscar.

THE DOG WHISPERER
There now. A nice meal, a few drinks afterwards and I guarantee there'll be no "bad dog!" from Gary tonight. Give him one from me!

The Dog Whisperer winks.

END.

Lovely. Would be even better if you could get the dog to wink in PP.

Another good one. Need some of that inspiration right now

Brilliant!

So little wordage, so much expression. Well scripted.

Restaurant setting revealed end too early for me. Good stuff, though.

Hi Geoff - I think as soon as you see the restaurant, and the paw pouring wine, that IS the reveal, near enough. The next 10 seconds are just wrapping it up. That's how I saw it, anyway.

My initial reaction was the same as Geoff's, that the reveal came too soon, but I think that is just a problem of seeing it on the page rather than performed, where you can stretch the laugh. Good one.

Hi James,

As long as you meant the reveal to be the beginning of the restaurant scene, that's fine.

Be sure to keep in the paw serving the wine. Lots of people find such puppetry amusing. Mrs Mutton, for example, would laugh more at that than the sketch itself. :)

Very good, and I've never even seen the show you're sending up.

Me neither. For all I know this is exactly what happens in it.

Hey James, very good sketch. Not much I can comment on that hasn't already been said.

Thanks for sharing

Cheers,
Craig

Nope, me neither. I assume once you've seen one nanny/dog/goldfish-type guru thing, can pretty much assume this fits the genre's style.
