Paul Merton - Silent Clowns

I hope I'm not duplicating here but I couldn't find a thread on this.

Has anyone seen this show? I think he's toured with it before. I've watched them all on the small screen of course, but to see them in a theatre environment with live accompaniment should be fun. Possibly not for Mr Lee though as a lot of it is people falling over no doubt. :)

Well Jane, no-one was interested but I'll tell you anyway.

:)

Saw the show last night at Hackney Empire which was a perfect setting.

Really enjoyed it - if you like silent black and white comedy from the 1920's go see it. If not you'll hate it.

I won't give too much away as I think Mikey might go but those were the days, when you could stretch twenty minutes material (no pun intended) from two men wearing each other's trousers.

And man swallowing clarinet - surreal before his time!

And as a bonus following on from the favourite instruments thread, where I said I loved double bass and piano, there was an extra treat. As well as Neil Brand doing a great job improvising the music on piano he then brought out his band, including DB, for one of the films.

And celebrity spotters will have noticed the bloke off Keeping up Appearances in the audience although I had no idea who he was!

Good show.

I would have loved to have seen this Jane.

I knew Paul was a fan of this type of comedy but I had no idea he performed it.

Will have to tube it up! any recommendations?

Ah Craig not everything should be watched on You Tube! This is best enjoyed in a theatre environment with live and unique musical accompaniment!

Paul doesn't perform as such - he gives some background information and introduces the clips.

I think there are a few dates left or he might do another TV prog on it!

They showed a film which was almost exactly copied by Wallace and Grommit. Seven Chances by Buster Keaton I'd recommend - that's good fun and has great stunts as always.

I'll be seeing this when his tour reaches me in sunny Worthing. :)
