Quite. I still recall my jaw dropping when one of the 'End of Story' entrants who'd not even won quit his job to concentrate on writing. Always worth being realistic.

:O

It's best to be pessimistic, then you'll never be disappointed. :)

With the BBC sketch factor competition a few years back, it's interesting to note that of the 10 winners of the initial competition not one had written sketches before, and I imagine a lot of the other entrants had NewsRevue/Treason Show experience, so it's certainly possible for someone without much experience to do better than someone with.

Indeed. As one of the ten winners, I had never even attempted to write a single sketch until I batted a couple off to the Beeb after stumbling across a link on b3ta one day while searching for that Joel Veitch kittens video with the Elbow song.

Of course, by the same token, I had never before attempted longer stuff, until Mr Jacob laughed my entry out of the building last year.

I might have a go this year, but the list of last year's winners is sobering, given how experienced they all are.

I agreee, if they're people like Catherine Shepherd. I wonder if wanting her to play the lead in my sitcom counts as elegibility to enter?

I wonder if just wanting her counts as elegibility to enter?

Well, it's worth pointing out that one of the 'nearly' pile last year was one of the Sketch Factor finalists. So it's not hard and fast.

Really? That's encouraging. Of course, I suspect that the key in this CoC lark is to try and submit something that isn't a great big steaming pile of bovine excrement.

But Dan that's the best thing you've written. ;)

Just had an email from a mate asking if I knew how long and when the residential course is, as he's concerned about other commitments (such as his young child). Anyone know?

I've no idea, but tell him it's probably not worth worrying about that yet!

Just to dash everyone's hopes even further, this is from Mr Jacob's Writersroom blog:

"... we ruled out writing graduates this year, and also correct that a graduate without professional credits was in the final 15. Experience of this year made us feel that things work best with a group of writers who have had largely equivalent experience."

I've not personally had experience of a large equivalent.

You've lived a very sheltered life.

Marc - roughly equivalent?

Antrax - the workshop will run from a Monday to a Friday, probably towards the end of July.

Marc - roughly ?

Again I think this is more Dolly's department.

Many thanks. I will pass that on.
