Do the country a favour - read this Graham Linehan article, be disgusted, and sign the petition. It's about time the press got a spanking. http://whythatsdelightful.wordpress.com/2009/03/18/the-express-wins-the-race-to-the-bottom/
Sunday Express Attacks Dunblane Victims
Hmm. Some tabloid journalists really are mentally ill.
Damn, that blog needs some major re-styling.
I'm completely furious about it. Please send this link on to all your friends and get them to sign the petition. It's very important we send a message to the press that there is a line that they cannot cross.
What is the line? The invasion of privacy, or the fact that they've linked a story of "SHOCK! HORROR! 18 year olds drink alcohol!" with the kids' past? Linehan is too emotive and extremely light on fact.
Are we not behaving just like the people who complained about Ross/Brand? A quick whizz round the web shows plenty of anger over this already. Forwarding it to people that never saw it just to drum up support for your own views seems very Daily Mail ish.
This is funny though:

Or maybe send it and ask their opinion before telling them what it should be?

Very good point, Tiggs. I see that Tim Ireland and his crew are showing as much respect to personal privacy as the woman about whom they're bitching.

To me, the line is that the Express have purposely-waited until these kids were 18 so they can "name and shame" them for doing the stuff most teenagers do - get pissed and write about it on Facebook etc. That's bad enough, but to suggest these kids are "shaming their dead schoolmates" by enjoying themselves is just f**king disgusting, and someone's head needs to roll for it.
Also, Paula Murray the writer of the article has a Facebook page where she lists her hobbies as pubs, clubs, and parties, with accompanying pics of her swilling back gallons of wine. The hypocrisy is just staggering.
The press are far too powerful and really, REALLY need to have a wake-up call that we won't take whatever shit tey spoonfeed us.
To be fair, they've now issued an "apology", half of which is the Express bigging itself up. http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/90417/Dunblane-We-re-sorry
It's not enough. I've just written to the paper expressing my disgust, and called on them to sack the journalist involved.
Indeed, I don't care much about either issue*.....but I'm not keen on being told what I should dislike.
* Kids that post pics of themselves acting like cocks on the net should be more sensible.....so should drunk hacks.

That's the whole point - it was the f**king press who almost brought comedy to its knees with the Ross / Brand thing - time for a taste of their own medicine, surely?
What's most shocking to me is that this is from the SCOTTISH Sunday Express. Scottish. Yes, because people consuming alcohol - nevermind young people! - is such a precedent in Scotland. It's totally out of character.
Slowest. News. Day. EVER.

I don't know what that means.

He's asking you to, not telling you to. Don't if you don't want to, for holy craps sake.
The fact is, what that paper did is pretty disgusting.
I think he just means the "be disgusted" part of the first post.

Holy shit. Okay, I shall reword it to "Be disgusted, or don't...your choice,really...no pressure..."
