I was thinking today that Buster from Arrested Development doesn't get much mention (heck, I can't even recall the actor's name off the top of my head) despite being a brilliant character.

Bob from Becker, a good example of a recurring character being successfully promoted to a cast regular.

Actually, maybe Ross in Friends. Chandler and Joey get a lot of praise, but as the series wore on, Ross became a great character. He started wet, but then turned sort of crazy, and Schwimmer really developed as a physical performer.
