Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle - Series 1 Page 39
I think he believes he's better than most people judging by some of the stuff I saw, I can't remember examples as my memory isn't what...
What was I saying...?
He also seems very smug. I don't know way, as he's a forty/fifty odd year old man that dresses like a lesbian.
Compared with some of the people on panel shows, his "smugness" is muted. The look on some of their faces when they manage to lever-in a pre-prepared gag into a "spontaneous" discussion... Then, on receiving a laugh, their face resembles the look of self-achievement equivalent to a toddler proudly saying "Look, Mummy I did a poo in the potty!".
Er...
Quote: Nil Putters @ June 12 2009, 7:21 AM BSTI agree with Aaron, which probably means I'm wrong. But I can't find anything funny about this man.
I think he's supposed to be "groundbreaking" or "cutting edge".
He wasn't that 10 (or more) years ago, so I can't see it now.
Quote: Tim Walker @ June 12 2009, 11:55 AM BSTI was only quibbling with the assertion of the term "pretentious" by Chappers, supported by Aaron.
It means the Guardian likes him.
The most pretentious thing Lee came out with during the series, was when he branded his audience as being "Hipsters".
I think that was perhaps deliberately ironic on his part?
Stewart was being interviewed by Johnny Vegas on Chain Reaction last night (14th June) on Radio 7: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00l5p7l
Worth a listen. He does mention the 'Faaag Rats', if anyone's still interested

Stewart Lee v. Franklyn Ajaye (well, kind of) http://www.thescrivenersfancy.com/scarcely-relevant/2009/06/24/two-missionaries.aspx
Worth a read if you liked that bit of material.

Aren't most comedians smug? It's in their blood.
The news on Stewart Lee's website has been updated, and the tickets for his london run in Dec/Jan are now on sale.
He's playing at the Leicester Square Theatre, which I'm assuming is a bit bigger than the room he's previously played at the Soho Theatre. Best thing about this, is that he's playing at 7.30pm, which means I can actually getting home afterwards without coughing up for a taxi!
I'm going to the Guildford gig.
'Guildford' and 'gig' really don't go together, do they?
<he said, priming his avocado slicer>
