Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle - Series 1 Page 38

Ah yes, some kind of London run in December/Jan, so he says. Nice.

Stew says, "In this show, an account of something that happened to me in a coffee shop will be used as a convenient framing device for disparate material possibly concerning English Heritage, Top Gear, The Olympics, emigration, prawns, Bella Pasta, The National Trust, farmers, DH Lawrence, piglets, cathedrals, bees, Iggy Pop, cider adverts, riots etc etc."

He misspelt "desperate".

And when was it last called Bella Pasta?

And when was it last called Bella Pasta?

I'm sure I've still seen it titled that in places. Plus he might be referring to an incident that happened to him in a Bella Pasta. Which was, at the time, still called a Bella Pasta.

I agree Aaron, after twenty years of success and heaps of critical aclaim, it's about time he realised he was rubbish and pissed off.

He may not have been, but he certainly is now.

Or, more likely, his 'comedy' is just too high-brow for me.

Well, I posted that bit from his newsletter as it made me laugh lots, rather than for informational purposes.

I believe (at least, *hope*), also, that Aaron was making a joke:
"disparate"... <long pause>... "desperate"... <longer pause> "disparate"... <longest pause> ... "desperate".

I don't really understand it... :)

I thought I was alone in disliking this pretentious crap.

What's pretentious about Stewart Lee?

What's pretentious about Stewart Lee?

Yes, Aaron, pretentious - def. "making (unjustified) claims to special merit or importance".

You may claim that those of us that enjoy or attempt to explain his stand-up are pretentious, but where is the evidence that he himself is pretentious?

I haven't seen any evidence of him trying to make any claims to special merit or importance of his work. Nor have I heard him trying to deconstruct or justify his performances. He just does he stand-up. Explain to me how he is pretentious?

I agree with Aaron, which probably means I'm wrong. But I can't find anything funny about this man.
