And some people like both, prefarbly together, which Stewart Lee does very well. Yes, sometimes you just want to laugh and not have to think so much about what is been said, I love Not Going Out for that reason, but then other times you want something that makes you think as well as laugh and we have lacked that for a very long time now. Bill Hicks is my favourite stand-up comedian ever, completely hilarious but also had so many valid points to make and he made you actually think.

I agree, up to a point. Most broadcast stand-up is topical and acerbic and has a point to make. And like the show or not, a few arrows from Extras did hit home ("They'll put it on after EastEnders... that sort of idiot'll watch any rubbish"- then look at what comedy they broadcast on BBC1). I just think Lee hammers it home rather too heavily. And his delivery doesn't help.

Again, I like Stewart Lee and I like his brand of stand up. I don't like him trying to tell me that because he stands in front of a microphone and tells jokes, that his brand of entertainment is somehow superior to Dexter, Lost, 24, Rome, etc.

I don't think he did though; he was talking about TV over all. And mainly, I think, British TV; I'm sure like anyone else there are lots of individual programmes that he loves.

I think if he was to tell us about shows he likes and respects it would be pretty dull. It's an angry show and all the better for it.

The Waiting for Godot was hilarious. And so was the giant Dell bit.

And so was Michael Fish.

No he was a giant remember so they made his name bigger. Next year they are mating him with Emmerdale to create A Dingley Dell.

:)

I'll just add my support by saying this show is superb. It's great to see him back on TV and doing it his way.

My only slight niggle is that a fair bit of the material is from his last tour. I guess most of the million people watching haven't seen it, but I have.

Does anyone know the venue where the stand up sections are filmed?

Found it: the Mildmay Club, Stoke Newington.

Kudos to E4 during Thursday night's My Name Is Earl break:

"You're watching E4 -- the shiny, but vacuous channel comedian Stewart Lee doesn't like at all, which means in 15 minutes, he won't see The Big Bang Theory [...] and then he'll miss Ricky Gervais's Fame tour at ten past eleven. Unless, of course, he's secretly watching..."

:)

Dan

Hahaha fair play to 'em.

Yep, now they can get on showing endless repeats of Friends, Scrubs and Hollyoaks to prove just how wrong he is! :D

Awesome! :D

I can't help but think Stewart Lee will be mighty pleased about that.

I think that shows a welcome self-awareness on E4's part. They know what they're all about.

Do you think he really goes to Finsbury weight watchers? I'm fat and it would be my likely an ideal chance to stalk him? As I live near by and am a bit chunky.

Bloody hell this is fantastic. Political correct Hitler gags, jokes about hijabs? This is proper grown up satire that's funny and about ideas.

And it's got Kevin Eldon in it.
