My opinion of people within 'the industry' has been quite low since the turn of the year, mainly because people I've contacted either haven't bothered to return my calls/e-mails or when they have, they haven't been very helpful.
I contacted a well known writer/performer at the end of January as I'd heard that in the past he had been willing to read scripts from unknown writers. Within my letter I asked if he would mind reading mine. About three weeks ago I received an e-mail from his PA explaining that he was too busy to read the script at this time, but would answer any questions, if I had some.
Not wanting to miss this opportunity I made notes of some questions and e-mailed them over the next day. In my mind I thought I'd probably receive a short response to each of my 6 questions, or not receive a response at all.
Last Friday I received an e-mail from the PA with answers to my questions. The writer/performer in question had given fantasically in depth answers over 4 pages of A4. I was so pleased, this is the first person within the industry to really give me the time of day. When you think of what some people are willing to give in terms of help, and what others are not willing to give - it's quite remarkable.
