Prolonged writer's block Page 4

Am I the only one here that manages to combine writing AND jizzing? :$

I think we're all talking about different approaches to writing. Personally, I sweat on every word too but I do love the process also. To me, it's what I want to do.

Imo I maybe disagree that the quality control of short form is less of a concern than long form for a writer. Every word a writer puts out should be economical and perfectly placed. I want to be proud of everything I've done. I'm not, but it doesn't stop me wanting it, btw. ;)

As to novels, the publisher is the buyer and therefore the one with ultimate power in the relationship, if it isn't what the publisher wants then the writer can't force it on them. Writers in that position face the stark choice of compromise or no compromise. Different writers will take different stances on that but ultimately and realistically the writer's fate is not in their own hands, even if they can write.

I admire your 'no compromise' stance, Skibb, and wish I was brave enough to pursue it, but I want to sell first and foremost and will take onboard anything that will improve my chances. If it means a change in style or content, then so be it. :)

I guess I'm a little old school. I carry a note pad with me every where , then when I have a good idea I note it down. Eventually enough good ideas can be strung together to make a script. I may not jizz an awful lot, but the amalgamation of dribbles, equals out. Also sometimes when I am a bit blank, I draw maps, and flow diagrams, of ideas, and lists.
Sounds dull but it works. Often writing down 10 ways to say I have a headache go away. Can produce a killer line at number 7.

It's not so much writing. In as much as it's generating comedic building blocks. The writing is just assembling them.

Yep, agree SootyJ esp re: the constructing from pre-built blocks and the pad. :)

I got an idea from a sign in a pub yesterday and wrote it about 1/2 an hour ago in the sketch comp.

Yes I entered my sausage of the day.

I don't suffer with writer's block because I'm not really a writer.

*Dum-dum-duhhhhh!!* (exaggerated scary music)

Not a prerequisite for joining a comedy forum like this I shouldn't think :P

I've tried writing comedy but it's never been any good. Have plenty of ideas, but not enough time or commitment or put pen to paper with it. As a photographer, part time railway worker and music producer I'm too scared to try and cram anything else in! Love comedy though, and hope that's enough to ensure my survivial in this realm.

This forum is definitely more friendly than Digital Spy, WNXX (work-related forum) and Outpost Gallifrey. It's nice to find a place on the web where there isn't any idiots.

Are you actually selling these pieces that are yanking that much upstream effort from you? Actually receiving money and/or visible credit?

Yes.

Then rock on, bro!

Each to his own design.

Cheers.

Look, I'm not saying that writing can't be great fun. Most of the time it is. And neither am I saying that re-writing alone and making the experience painful will ultimately produce something good.

Roughly last autumn I'd just got over a two year block!!!
