Song - Where's Me Post

Feedback appreciated - not sure it makes sense as has two concurrent themes, and probably need to come up with a better finish.

WHERE'S ME POST SONG

To the tune of HOLD ME CLOSE by DAVID ESSEX

Where's me post, where did it go, oh oh
First Class it never used to be this slow
Do ya know
With profits declining
Mandelson has been reassigning
'Cause Royal Mail funds have got-ten low

Where's me post, where did it go, on no
Wrote to you, but my letter it didn't show
Didn't show
With less revenue coming yearly
There's one Post Office left near me
So please, I beg don't let it go

And I am getting weary, oh I could sue
Waiting here till half past three
'Cause my package is overdue

Now Man-del-son he says he'll let it go, oh ho
He says that otherwise their pensions will get so low
Get so low
He said "just stop whining
It's not like Thatcher shutting down mining"
But the unions want him overthrown

And if protests get rougher, as they're bound to
Let Labour votes suffer, 'cause their mistakes have begun to accrue
But save our post don't let it go, oh no
If they privatise, it will be a terrible blow
Do you know
With Labour declining
Every cloud has a silver lining
But where's my post, where's my post WHERE'S MY POST WHEN WILL IT SHOW!?

-----------------
Original:

Hold me close, don't let me go, oh no
I, yes I love you and I think that you know
Do ya know
With your love light shining
Every clouds got a silver lining
So hold me close, don't let me go

Hold me close, don't let me go, oh no
You and me, yes our love it will stop the show
Do you know
With your love light shining clearly
It's so good to have-a-ya near me
So hold me close, don't let me go

And if that road gets weary, oh I love you
Waiting here if you need me
'Cause I love the things that you do

So hold me close, don't let me go,oh no
You see I, yes I love ya and I think that you know
Do you know
With your love light shining
Every clouds got a silver lining
So hold me close, don't let me go

And if that road gets tougher, oh I love you
No I'll let ya suffer 'cause I love the things that you do
So hold me close, don't let me go oh no
You and me, yes our love it will grow and grow
Do you know
With your love light shining
Every cloud has a silver lining
So hold me close, hold me close, hold me close don't let me go

Hold me close
Closer girl
Hold me close

Hi Rob

I like it :)

I did find it useful to have a quick listen to the original first though as I'd forgotten how it went. (Because my brain wouldn't work rather than it not being a well known song!) Bit of a blast from the past. I used to think he was dead mature and sexy!

To my utter shame I was able to recall the whole song. I like your version, very good.

Thanks Jane, Ned.

Can't say I was really familiar with it until I started writing the lyrics - had to get mum to sing it and YouTube it.

But now the damn thing's stuck in my head >_<

Hi Rob,

This one didn't quite work for me. It seemed to flip-flop between targetting postal performance and the sell-off so I got a bit confused. There are some nice lines in there though.

Quick - go to General Discussion & post on the Ear Worm thread.

Not bad lyrics but they need to be more direct and incisive.

Thanks for the comments Ponderer and Geoff.

The two themes clashing was what I was worried about - Think I was trying to get across people moan about the Post Office but don't want it to change.

I think the Ear Worm post started with this song infiltrating Jane's head
;)

Nice one, Rob.

Sent it to Treason NOW!

They're short of songs for this month's shows.

I think that might be a bit too subtle a point to make in a song. Maybe doing it with two voices might help?

I'm a postie, like it, nice one :)

Funny one again Rob. Though the 'Hold me Close' by David Essex isn't exactly well known. How about adapting it to 'Postman Pat' (and his black & white cat)? I looked at a couple of lines at the beginning and I think they scan. Ok, it's a kids' song but more well known than 'Hold me Close'. Just a thought. :)

Thanks Morrace. Basically this one was for a request (I hadn't heard of it). Postman Pat's a good idea. In fact first song of mine TS used was "Postman Phat" https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/9431#P272431

Looks like someone's version of Postman Pat was in NR this week so guess it's redundant anyway.

Loved "Postman Phat" - Brilliant! Don't know how I missed that one! Rolling eyes
