New Short Film Writing Opportunity (North)

Micro Movie Classics

Micro Movie Classics is a fantastic opportunity for emerging writers, filmmakers and animators in the region to adapt a classic story into a one minute short film. Run by Northern Film & Media in partnership with Shudder Films and The Story Engine, 5 one minute films will be commissioned. Each commissioned film will receive a budget of £1,000 and should be inspired by a classic story from the selection below.

The Classic stories from which you can choose are:

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott - http://www.bibliomania.com/0/0/5/4/frameset.html

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll - http://www.bibliomania.com/0/0/11/frameset.html

Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame – http://www.gutenberg.org/files/289/289-h/289-h.htm

The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe http://www.bartleby.com/195/10.html

The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/readfile?fk_files=1048618

A producer will work across the scheme but if you would rather produce your own work or collaborate with another producer you are free to do so. If you are applying as a writer without a director attached then we can also work with you to attach a director.

Completed films will be premiered on the www.northeastmovies.co.uk website where they will face a public vote. There will be two prizes; one for the film that receives the most public votes and another chosen by a panel of Story Engine Speakers. The winning films will receive a flip camera for the writer and director.

Once the films are completed, they will be up for the public vote through our www.northeastmovies.co.uk . There will be two prizes; one will be the peoples choice – the film that receives the most votes – the other is chosen by a panel of Story Engine Speakers. The Story Engine is the Northern Screenwriters' Comference and is in its third year. It offers networking opportunities, case studies, practical workshops, and panel discussions for those who have already embarked on a career as a screenwriter, or just plain curious.

The winning writers will receive passes to Story Engine 2009 and 1 years subscription to TwelvePoint.com and the winner chosen by the panel will also receive lunch with screenwriter Lisa Holdsworth (Robin Hood, New Tricks, Waterloo Road) - either in Leeds or Newcastle, paid for by the Story Engine.

For details of how to apply, please download the Guidelines for Applicants and the application Form from our website (http://www.northernmedia.org:80/?mod=news&pageid=38&id=401).

The deadline for applications is Friday 27 March 2009

It's nice to see the North getting something at last!

:)

Nevermind the North, what about some opportunities for Iron Bridge! I'm sick of being discriminated against.

One minute, that is truly the definition of 'short film'.

Yeah, but if you can make a decent one minute film it can open all kinds of doors with mobile phone companies etc...
