They did, so on some level it worked. I can deride it all I like but I can't tell someone who enjoyed it that there weren't any jokes in it. The proof is in the laughter.

Fair enough, but at some point common sense must kick in. Virtually every comedy ever made has a clique of hardcore fans. We need to be able to look at the consensus of opinion and say, "You small group of weird people might like but you are clearly wrong."

Chipolata, do you feel confident enough to go to a court of law and prove that it isn't funny?

There is no "clearly wrong". Not in comedy at least.

Surprised that people could hate it, or surprised that specific people hated it who you thought would have loved it...?

The second one, they are big Morris fans but initially disliked it a lot.

You're clearly wrong.

There is in Chipolata's World.

Wedgied by my own petard!

Always loved Nathan Barley. Quite a traditional sitcom in many ways. In other ways, not so. Hope this is helpful to the 'debate'. You f**king chalked-face ninnies.

I loved Nathan Barley too.

And quite a surprising amount of people do say they hated it at first, but on a rewatch found it funny and likeable.

I think people got far too hung up on the angle of it being a piss take of media types. It's more durable than that.

To some extent it did suffer from Lab Rats Syndrome: expectations were so high that when it didn't match them people were excessively harsh. It's still a bit shite, mind. Lab Rats too.

Back on the general topic, I'd really love to hear him do a radio show again. I used to like the show on Radio 1 he did with Peter Baynham.

Doesn't he look so young!

Anyone else like 'Why Bother', that he did with Peter Cook? Good stuff.

Yes! I love that. I particularly like it when Chris Morris starts laughing to himself and then explains that he's imagining Peter Cook's death.

Laughing out loud
