I've often wondered what the derivation of that is. Anybody know?

This is the best answer I've managed to find.

Yes, I am that bored. That's also probably the most productive thing I've done all day.

I don't understand your system what so ever. A TV license?
I'm also really curious about it (my undergrad was in Media Communications). I've written papers comparing Commonwealth public broadcasters but steered clear of the systems particularly because I found yours confusing.
Can anyone sum it up for me?

Yesterday you said I radio was way cooler than yours. It's because the TV liscence pays for it.

Who are they employed by then?

The BBC contract out the collection and administration of all licensing matters. They receive the cash but don't employ anyone themselves.

From http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/aboutus/index.jsp

"The majority of administration is contracted to Capita Business Services Ltd, with cash related payment schemes contracted to Revenues Management Services Ltd. Over-the-counter services are contracted to PayPoint Collections Ltd. Marketing and public relations activities are contracted to the AMV Consortium."

The BBC has NO adverts on any of its media (apart from the web for your foreigns) - it is funded by the TV licence (and profits from DVD sales etc).

I'm probably being very stupid here but how has the credit crunch affected the BBC's cash inflow? Presumably it's still collecting roughly the same amount of license fees, so why is its new programme-making budget being slashed, as well as making huge cutbacks on existing shows?

It's income isn't derived soley from the license fee.

DVD and merchandise sales.

..and spurious fines for non-payment of various monies.

Our CBC TV and Radio are payed through taxes and yet our TV is still riddled with advertisements and our Radio is being threatened thanks to our culture killing shit Conservative government.

Those taxes are probably towards enriching the frog 'culture' you have.

Pfft.

That is a good question. I'm guessing they actually have to sue none payers which takes time and they sell alot of their shows abroad with less countries buying for less money.

I always wondered why Sky can get away with showing ads, when its viewers are subscribers who pay to watch it. It's like the BBC making us pay the licence fee and then showing ads.

Becuase they show us ace shows you can't get anywhere exvcept DVD, so bsically we're their bitch.
