Quiz Show - Next Step?

Hi everyone. I have an idea for a new quiz show, but don't know what to do next. Is it just a case of sending it off to production companies, and keeping my fingers crossed? Any advice on websites to look at etc would be much appreciated. Thanks

Not strictly 'writing' as such, but moved to Writers' Discussion.

You don't mention if this is a radio or TV idea, but Radio 4 have a page of pannel game advice which if you haven't already seen is probably worth checking your show against. They have common mistakes which is worth making sure you avoid. (If your show could work on radio it's probably sensible to aim for that, as its far more likely to be made then a TV thing.)

Also if you haven't played it with friends several times already, I'd do so before you try submitting anywhere. I had a radio show idea years ago (which incidentally is almost exactly like Dave's "argumental") which I played with friends a number of times trying to see how it might work. Such run throughs changed the idea a lot, cos when you plan you really see where it does and doesn't work, and how easy it is to pick up or follow.

Once you feel the idea is as strong as you can make it, look around for production companies who accept such ideas, and yeah, just send it off. Like I said - Radio seems more open to such things and I'm sure in one of the guide things somewhere they have a list of production companies who'd be interested.

We take ideas Don - you got a treatment or something similar?

Send it to me at stur@originalproductionsuk.com.

Cheers Hennell. My idea is for a TV quiz. It's very visual, so would not work on radio. I read a while back, the 2 people that came up with the idea for The Weakest Link earn £4500 per show - and that's before taking into account its success in America! With this in mind, I'm certainly going to try and take my idea further.
