Best budget Video editing s/ware

Have had Adobe Premiere 1.5 for a long time but need to move into HDV and my version won't support it, plus my budget won't allow for an upgrade. What video editing kits would the editor buffs here recommend for around the 100 bucks (sterling) mark.

I've a demo of Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum Pro and am debating to buy the full version but want to make sure I'm not making a bad choice. I'm also thinking of toying with Corel Movie Studio x2.

With thanks for your replies and hopefully before the thread turns into a wanking discussion. ;)

Vegas. Not even a second thought.

Final cut is Mac nonesense, Premeire slow clunky. Vegas is great I've used it for years.

Are we talking the mega expensive Vegas 8.0 or the budget Vegas Movie Maker Plat Pro 9.0?

Vegas is one of the reasons I run VMWare Fusion on my iMac. I like it much better than any Mac editor.

Vegas Pro 8.0c

I have Final Cut Pro but it's hard to handle.

Becuase it's designed around analogue editing and Vegas is a round digital same with premeire.

Do you think the cheaper Sony Vegas 9.0 still holds its own with competitors around the 100 quid mark?

Since your editing software is one of the most important parts of production I suggest down loading the trails and seeing which you feel more comfortable lwith

Premiere Elements for me, the previous version was pants but version 7 is good. Never used Vegas, will have to try it out.

I take this all back! Premiere Elements is a P.O.S! Aaaaaarghhhh!!!!!!!

I'm going to find a small guy, I want a fight.

LOL! what did you expect? Premiere is a piece of shit. Premiere Lite is hardly gonna be much better ;)

Ah! I've never been infected with full blown Premiere. It would be good if it could just import the stupid files without adding random bits of audio!

Instead of re-drawing a Pig's back leg (Because it looks like a giant cock!) I'm f**king about with codecs. So when my animation comes out and it has all these giant Pig cocks flapping about please send you complaints to Adobe!

Your exporting in .mov from Anime Studio I presume?

Yeah. Always been a problematic process, used to convert to intermediate AVIs first which took ages. Thought Adobe 7 had cracked it :(
