Played PS3 Online for the first time Page 2

I want to play. Not with yanky teenagers (well maybe the sexy ones) but my PS2 is sucking arse atm. I resent it. *shakes fist*

Get yourself down to the the Elephant and Castle, leevil. Two hours busking for change ought to be enough to score a 360 at the current prices. Then you too can respawn 98 times in five minutes playing COD online with children.

Things I've learnt so far in online gaming:

n00b - When you first start playing you are tagged with this nomenclature. To be a n00b seems to put you on about the same social level as a child killer, rapist or investment fund manager. I have not yet found out at what point you stop being a n00b - is it such when you reach a certain proficiency, when you reach a certain rank, or is it generally when people stop shouting "You is da f**kin n00b enit you emo!"

Levelling- I thought this was when you like listening to the Brighton based folk-punk band, but no, it is when you try to increase the rank or proficiency of your online character. It appears that levelling can be somewhat controversial. It would seem that you level natuarally as you play the game, and as you level you increase rank, weapons choice and abilities. But such is the need or desire to level as quickly as possible that there are some who go to crazy or underhand means to do so. I am still learning about this, so enough said for now.

Camping- I remember when this meant you got out your tent from the garage and dusted off your sleeping bag for a nice jaunt to the new forest. Not any more! From what I can ascertain camping now refers to people who hide, dig in or generally stay still so as to pick off the enemy in safety. I get the impression it is frowned upon, and to camp in a game is akin to trying to use rohpnol at a party. So, if camping is one side of the coin then the alternative must be to keep running around like a lunatic? And this appears to be considered ok. I would also throw in the sniper arguement here. A sniper by their nature has to camp to be effective. I can see that further experience and analysis is needed here.

Glitching - This seems to be when you find a system fault in the programming which allows you to perform a task in the game that would otherwise not be allowed or even possible. From what I can tell so far a use of a glitch is ok if it is sort of naturally occuring and if anyone can take advantage of it. Bad glitching use seems to be when players purposely use a cheat or hack method to manipulate the game environment to their own personal advantage.

nades - I remember the time when it didn't take much effort to pronounce the letters 'gra' before a word. What backwards times they were! Nades are of course short for 'Granades'. Yawn! even typing out those first three letters almost sent me to sleep, thank heavens for modern word shortenings.

non-scoping - Why have a sniper rifle with scope when it is actually more effective to not have a scope? Exactly! that is why the online gamers saw a good method for getting quick and effective kills. This basically revolves around using the cross hair marks to quickly assist on precise deadly shots. As the name suggests, you do not need to press L1 for the scope.

Spawning - Quite simply this is your character regenerating after being killed. When someone first asked me where I spawned I asked them if they wanted a friggin slap. Of course I know better now.

Spawn kill - From what I can gather this is a naughty thing to do, although there appear to be two schools of thought on the process. Spawn killing seems to mean when you take advantage of someone spawning so as to get yourself an easy kill. It is frowned upon by many because the person spawning is at an obvious disadvantage. Spawn killing also has connections with camping as those who carry out this method often hide or dig in to a place they know is out the way and free from counter attack. Therefore you can be involved in two gaming crimes at once. Bargain!

Well that's what I've learnt so far. I suspect they are lots more terms and methods I do not yet know. Please feel free to add to the glossary.

n00b out...

Def that's brilliant!

That is f**king annoying and ruins the game.

Congrats Nil... you're only 1000 less of a loser than me.

What a good idea Lee. Hhmm...obviously I'd thought of that also..Huh?

I guess I better amass a long list of gaming terms.

Yeah, and to break it up maybe have sections in the book where it's just your humorous take on different aspects of online gaming - what sort of people play, the difference between old players and young players etc etc - any publishing company would snatch your hand off I reckon!
:)

Yes that's a very good idea geeks from around the world will purchase my 36 page book!.

Ok Lee! :D

Laughing out loud good to know people are just as nasty on the PS3 as they are on the 360.
I actually usually just go into a chat with just my friends and mute everyone else.
I decided to do this when I found myself yelling at a kid with a southern accent (probably around 12 years old) "NO YOU SUCK!!!!"
I realized my immaturity and have muted them all since.

One is no longer a n00b when one has learned all of the ways and the terminology.

(So indirectly it's to do with how long you've been a user.)

I knew all those terms except nads.
We call them by what type of grenade you pick up.
Sticky, launcher, bomb ect..

Isn't that a term for "balls"? ;)

Yep, nads is nutsacks. I think he means 'nades'. I must stress that dropping the 'e' could have serious n00b connotations!

It could be used in context thus:- "f**kin n00bs man, their f**in n00b nade'fest in Wet works keeps gettin me fragged."

It's like trying to learn German or French...
