Top Ten American Sitcoms Ever Page 8

I honestly can't think of ten good US sitcoms.

Apart from Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Reba would have to be in the Top Five somewhere.

I don't get that myself. There are easily about 20 plus Seinfeld episodes which are better than Curb's best few ones. Plus Seinfeld holds up better on repeated viewings. Costanza is perhaps the best character in sitcom history, Kramer is great too and the pool of minor characters has real depth and is brimming with greatness. Both Sein and Curb are ace of course, but Sein is definitely superior. Arrested Development is very overrated as a whole, it fell away badly from halfway through season 2 onwards.

...

Oooh, fun. Not necessarily best, but favourite.

10. Roseanne
9. Golden Girls
8. Night Court
7. Perfect Strangers
6. Seinfeld
5. The Office (first four series)
4. Always Sunny
3. 3rd Rock from the Sun
2. Fresh Prince of Bel Air
1. The Simpsons (early years)

Six through two are very interchangeable, but The Simpsons in its hey-day has no equal (early to mid nineties - the Conan O'Brien years were central). It had an amazing mix of real and absurd characters as well as the best story lines in TV. The "Treehouse of Horrors" as well as the Christmas specials were amazing and I never would have thought that an animated TV show could turn literature into comedy.

Taxi
Frasier
MASH
The Simpsons
Roseanne
Different Strokes
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Mork & Mindy
Friends
Will & Grace

Tiananmen Square massacre!

F**ky-offy. Wave

Perusing this thread I noticed The Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy and King of the Hill on a few lists. Can cartoons be classified as 'animated sitcoms' or should they simply be called cartoons or animated comedy series? King of the Hill (well, and many episodes of The Simpsons) is the only one that could be consistently filmed as a real-life sitcom, the others tend to contain situations that are too outlandish.

If cartoons are classified as sitcoms, does that mean forgettable rubbish like Popetown qualifies as a sitcom?

Yes.

The Simpsons
Roseanne
Cheers
Frasier
How I met your Mother
Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza place
Seinfeld
The Big Bang Theory
South Park
Grounded for Life

*Almost forgot,
Parker Lewis can't lose

I honestly can't think of ten good US sitcoms.

Maybe you should watch a few then, 'cos there's loads of good ones.

Arrested Development
Cybill
Roseanne
High Society
The Golden Girls
Curb Your Enthusiasm
Malcom in the Middle
Ugly Betty
The Gilmore Girls
Desperate Housewives
Frasier

P.S. M.A.S.H should be mentioned - making up for the comedy/dramas that I included.

I can only think of five (though there's likely more):

The Munsters

The Addams Family

The Flintstones

The Odd Couple

Heil Honey, I'm Home

There's no likely about it. Though you have to actually watch modern sitcoms to notice.

They will have to improve a bit more first, Matt.......... I don't have to watch 'em unless I hear they're good enough to bother with first.

Ah well, your loss.
