Writing for Newsjack (aka 7 on 7) Page 30

Yeah, sorry, just one ticket. I was supposed to be in London on a course today and it got canned (amongst a myriad of other reasons for not going)

Dan

I sent a live puppy, I'm hoping it's little yips will attract the script reader.

Nevermind. You can listen to your sketches when they're broadcast on Thursday. ;)

One of 'myriad other reasons': rubbish sketches...

Dan

Has anyone heard back from Newsjack yet?

I might be being too cynical, but chances are we won't hear back.

There's always too many submissions for them to comment on them, and too much to organize for them to worry about even the successful writers. Like always we'll all end up listening week by week with baited breath wondering if that line we just heard was our line edited, and lulling ourselves into a false sense of certainty by labeling everything else 'unfunny' and wondering why they've not broadcast our 'comic masterpiece' yet.

In short; you'll find out if its on the air when it airs, and will be unlikely to get any e-mail until after the series ends. (Unless you're really are writing masterpieces, in which case they will probably up your sketch limit.)

So we can all safely stop checking our e-mail every three minutes.... at some point... soon...

Really? They managed to get back to me when I got a sketch on Tilt.

I think with Tilt people heard on the day?

Basically they won't make any comment or commitment until they're actually going to use it. Even if they record it that doesn't mean they'll use it.

Ah, that will be it then. Thanks for clearing that up.

Yeah, I found out on the day of broadcast (beforehand, mind) with Tilt. It was actually recorded the previous week, but I only know cos Yacob told me (and he had to shout out to them how to pronounce my name!)

Dan

On another important matter (sorry if this has already been mentioned), but Newsjack is available as a podcast.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/newsjack/

Cheers Ian, I will take advantage of that (my radio picks up podcasts, so I don't have to sit at my computer to catch the show on iPlayer).

Echoing everyone else, I heard back from Tilt about sketches being in on the day of broadcast. But this time they might work completely differently, who knows.

Yeah, cheers Ian!

Dan

Thanks. Now we can listen to the show repeatly and shout, "How on f**king Earth did that sketch get on and not mine!?"

Huh - did not know Tilt had notified people. I don't think I've ever been told in advance I had something 'on' by anything. I assumed an very open show would be even more unlikely to find the time to notify people.

I was hoping to listen to the show shouting "Sweet! Another sketch of mine? At some point someone else must get something on surely?!?", but you know, each to their own.... :D
