I didn't like him much at the beginning but grew to appreciate him as the show went on. I was really disappointed when he left. I wonder why I haven't seen him in other shows of that decade.

I liked him from day one as I could see the potential of the fish out of water in amongst a load of wannabes. Like many of his type he did a lot of theatre, but if you want to see more of him, I can highly recommend Blott On The Landscape, which in my opinion was very funny.
And David Suchet was excellent!

Thanks for the tip, mate!

You're welcome. :) I watched it "live" when it was on TV and then just had to get the DVD - I'm sure you will enjoy it.

He didn't do an awful lot of comedy, and then died tragically young, in 1996. His filmed work was mostly drama; otherwise, as hinted at, he mostly worked on stage AFAIK.

Aside from Blott On The Landscape, he also appeared in Life Without George.

Just got bbc2 schedules for 7-13th Feb, looks like the "un pc brigade, are at work Hi-De-Hi-No Dog's Allowed is being left out for some reason why can't they leave this brilliant comedy alone.

Not sure about that: today Ted uttered the word "poof"!

Quite right too.
Will have to record these, caught one the other day and it was a very welcome sitcom return. Funny, very British with acting today's directors can only dream of.

Why this was left off for 20 years you'll have to ask that weird bunch at BH.

And "Life without George" also featured the stunning Carol Royle.

Ha ha, I found those a few weeks ago. Sorely tempted to get a jacket!

Here's a teaser for fact fans: Gladys's Maplins badge is always on backwards.

Life would be much better with more of this sort of thing.

Great to see the HDHs again.

I think I like them even better than the first time around. :)

I'm certainly enjoying the re-runs on BBC2

:D

Peggy's outfit is just a tiny bit sexier!

Why aren't the BBC showing these episodes in order?

Not a clue. Seems to have gone completely off the wall.
