Topical song: My Old Man's a Labour Peer

Another attempt at a topical(ish) song. To the tune of 'My Old Man's a Dustman'.

All comments gratefully accepted.

Now here's a little story
To tell it is a must
About some thieving bastards
Abusing public trust

Some people make a pittance,
Others earn a crust
My old man needs so much more:
With money he's in lust.

Oh, my old man's a Labour peer,
He wears an ermine hat,
He'll table an amendment
For fifty thousand flat.
He'll speak on any subject
With his eloquence refined,
If you think you're getting that for nowt
You're out your tiny mind.

Some folks get tips at Christmas,
Or a bonus for good work,
But Dad'd rather sell his soul
To lobbyists: the berk.
Now the Times has got nasty
Entrapped the poor old chap,
Next time a press bill's on the cards
The Times is in the crap.

Oh my old man's a labour peer,
He wears an ermine hat,
He'll change the law for petty cash
The scheming bloody twat.

Though my old man's a Labour peer,
The Tories like his style,
Neil & Christine Hamilton
Advise him all the while.
We said "'Ere, hang on, Dad,
This really isn't fair";
He said "Call this abuse of power
Have you seen Tony Blair?"

Oi! My old man's a Labour peer,
He wears an ermine hat,
He wears Versace trousers
And he lives in a fancy flat.
Next time you see a Labour peer
Looking all pale and sad,
Just kick him in the dustbin:
Cos we've been bloody had.

That's about one of the best songs I've seen here.

Yeap can't disagree - really good! Well done.

Great little jaunty one.

Thanks folks, I may try and ship it to NR/TS then.

That's quality. Nice one. Enjoyed it very much, good idea, well-executed. Sent it to them -- I reckon it's perfect.

Dan

Ditto above. Just lovely. Must be able to get that in. Well done indeed!

Thanks Dan and Rob0. I shall certainly try.

Thanks Griff. I hoped they might manage as I couldn't find a handy way round it that didn't lose the sense. If only it was the good old days when it was Tory peers doing it.

Yes, I know its still 2 but easier to shorten (I think).

I had a similar thought to Griff, but having sung it through in my head a couple of times I got the phrasing okay. I would probably change a couple of things round to suit how I phrased it, but anyone singing it would do that.

I agree with the others though, great job.

Good stuff Ponderer, it's funny all the way through. All the better for digging the Tories as well. :)

Thanks guys.

And Godot, I just felt it was important to remember who invented this shit :)
