And if we're comparing her to Jade Goody, we have to remember that Jade came from a very tough, under-priviledged background and very little education. Thatcher on the other hand has had every opportunity and should know better. Jade also has redeeming features in that she wanted to improve herself and her ignorance (hence the trip to India) whereas I think Carol can't see anything wrong with what's she's done and would do it again.

I've got John McCrirrick on mine, doing ballet, hairy wanker.

Well paid trip to India with a photo shoot in a magazine.
That said she seems a genuinely nicer person and more intelligent than Carole.
Jade was also highly manipulated by Channel 4 and Shilpa played the game very well.
Quote: Dolly Dagger @ February 5 2009, 11:28 AM GMTIt's stupid. And she should know better.
Agreed. I'm just not 100% convinced it was meant as a racial thing.
That's actually a good thing, or else they'd be punishing her for what she thought not what she did. That's a bit 1984 even for me.

I don't see why this has any bearing on anything. Being working-class isn't an excuse for being stupid, being upper-class doesn't mean you should necessarily know better. It's just wrong whoever does it.
Also I didn't grow up with these 'golliwog' things but if anyone thinks that comes near to representing a human being they need to get their eyes checked.
I used to love gollywogs when I was little; collecting the vouchers off the jam jars. Being an idiot I didn't even realise they were supposed to be black people; I thought a gollywog was just a gollywog!

Are you having ago at people with physical deformities?

Same actually. But then I was a child and didn't know any better.
I think I had a gollywog doll action figure when I was a kid. Can't remember making an connection then.
I had the little marmalade figures.

Quote: Griff @ February 5 2009, 1:41 PM GMTWas your golliwog "action figure" tooled up with a blade and a gat?
Pimp my Golliwog?

They didn't have gats in them days. Them days they'd've been tooled up with oven-baked conkers on a chain. Word!
Quote: Mike Greybloke @ February 5 2009, 9:28 AM GMTFeeling's mutual, Aaron, believe me.
Gooood.
Quote: sootyj @ February 5 2009, 9:33 AM GMTAaron is I suspect the guy who would have had a "Free the Aristocrats," banner at the foot of the guilotine.
Damn straight.
Quote: sootyj @ February 5 2009, 9:54 AM GMTBesides agreement is dull and I'm quite secure that outside of liking rubbish sitcoms and grammar. Aaron virtually never types what he's actually thinking.
Well perhaps not the things weak people seem to find most offensive. But you'd evidently be surprised.
Quote: Jack Massey @ February 5 2009, 9:58 AM GMTthe fact is what Ross said wasn't really offensive anyway
Incorrect.
Quote: sootyj @ February 5 2009, 10:00 AM GMTeh?
She's trying to imply that I don't think at all.
Quote: Lee Henman @ February 5 2009, 11:15 AM GMTPersonally the less I see of Thatcher on my TV screen the better.
Agreed.
Quote: Graham Bandage @ February 5 2009, 11:36 AM GMTIf she were not the daughter of Margaret Thatcher she would never have bloody been on my telly.
Agreed. Bitch.
