Serves you right.

Did the pre-check tell you it would not work?
If it's a desktop PC, new network cards are usually in the £10 to £20 price bracket, assuming you have a spare slot or can take out the obsolete one.

Apparently they're gonna stop supporting XP, so I thought I'd better move on.

Nope.
Yeah, I think I'll see if the IT department at work has 'a spare' they can let me have, cheers.

One could of course read between the lines of this and interpret it as: "Microsoft have now fixed most of the bugs in Windows XP and there are so few bug reports coming in that it is no longer economical for Microsoft to run a support department for Windows XP, when they are desperately needed to fix bugs elsewhere"
Ha, you're probably right.
Anyway, I have a slightly newer card to try, hopefully it'll work.
EDIT: Sorted.
Help please.
I have a Medion desktop with on board sound.
Recently it has started to crackle and pop making listening virtually impossible.
But, it doesn't happen every time. Sometimes it can work perfectly ok but that's only about 30% of the time.
I'm pretty sure it's the on board and not the speakers as I tried it with headphones and it's still the same. I could hear it coming through the headphones with the speaker system turned off.
Motherboard is AGP. Any ideas or recommendations for a new card?
Ta.
Are you sure it's not what you're listening to?
I have a new HTC1, but 3 still haven't sent me a mini sim.
Bah.

You are Steve Ballmer and I claim my £5.
It's the easy thing to check.
Otherwise it could be a loose connection on your speaker(s).
Not the speakers. Headphones plugged into the front of the box crackle when the speakers are switched off.

Yes.
I listened to a Beatles track yesterday - fine. Same one today snap, crackle and pop.
Did you have anything else running on your computer when it was crackling? Did it start happening after installing any new hardware or software?

Nope. Just started.
