Been using chrome for 6 months now and it seems very good.

Only thing bad - no auto 'history delete' on exit. If you have been where you wouldn't like anyone else to know, you have to do it by hand (oh err missus)

In Google Chrome, drop down the menu button and select "New incognito window" to avoid histories.

You bunch of dirty dogs.

I purely use it so my other half doesn't find out about all the presents I'm always buying her.

Ok I don't have an other half, but all the rest of that was... oh never mind.

Does anyone know of a browser that is an alternative for Internet Explorer? Because some websites/applications require it and as well all know, the original is shit. Maybe what I'm asking doesn't exist but am I right in thinking that all the different browsers run off their own "engine" so one that runs of the I.E one or is based on it, would do what I am hoping for. Yeah? :S

You can download an IE add-on for Chrome, which utilises the IE application on your pc and runs it through Chrome. It's handy for this sort of thing (or using Microsoft web-based products, which always look different in IE/anything else) as it has a button by the Chrome address bar that you click and Voila, it's opened in an 'IE style'. Clicking the cross of the IE bar will switch a website back to Chrome also.

Very handy for work stuff that seems to be designed for IE (MS SharePoint, etc).

Dan

Thanks Bill for your advice on this already but just wanted to get a few more opinions/

I want to buy a pad with a 10 inch screen approx I can use microsoft word (and other office stuff)

dont want a laptop (even with touch screen); too heavy, pricy and fragile for my needs (which are simple)

Now as far as I know that means no Android pads or I think ipad (and don't want to pay that much)

So does that mean I'm left with a microsoft surface.

Whom most of the reviewers describe as ipads; fat, retarded, ugly cousin.

Given the choice I'd like to get a G10 pad. But no word and ultimately it'll always just be a play thing.

(also as I am a moron not interested in clever software patches I just mastered the tin opener)

I recommend the Asus Vivobooks for touch-screen laptops.

An i3 for £450 (£360 if you are claiming VAT through business - guessing freelance writing might count?!), or £400 for a B987.

Reasonable spec, light, slim and well-produced.

Touch laptops are a nice compromise IMHO, especially as Windows 8 is being forced on people with nearly every new machine.

You can use Polaris Office (and I'm sure other software is available) on any Android device that will allow you to create/edit any Word documents. (Not free unless you buy a Samsung Galaxy device)

Alternatively, write stuff in Google Docs and there is the option to download your documents in Word format, if you need to share with someone (it's .docx format though, not .doc). Also other formats available.

Most tablets will work fairly easily with a bluetooth keyboard if you want a 'laptop setup' without an actual laptop. Or the Galaxy Note 10.1 has a pen with excellent recognition capabilities if you want to write on the screen.

Full disclosure: I have a Galaxy Note 2 'phablet' that is, hands-down, the best piece of gadgetry I've ever bought ever. The 10.1 is a scaled up version of this (and there is an 8.0 version coming out imminently).

For 'cheapness', I'd get a Nexus 7 (or Nexus 10), though if you need a lot of on-board storage (via microSD card) neither of these will allow this. The Note models above will allow up to 64GB expansion (indeed, I have one in mine).

Hope some of that is helpful.

Dan

And it'll run windows?

hooray!

Thanks Dan I have a Nexus 7 and it's awesome, but just a little to small for practical writing

nb everyone's discounting the surface then?

Don't write off netbooks thinking they are too big/heavy etc.

I replaced my stolen one with one of these: http://cpc.farnell.com/asus/x101ch-blk043s/10-netbook-1gb-320gb-w7s-blk-asus/dp/SB04789

I don't think it is any bigger or heavier than your combination pad & keyboard that you showed me and it comes at that low price with Windows 7 starter and a trial edition of MS Office 2010, so you can be sure it will work. It is priced less than £200 so a lot cheaper than those other things you were considering.

I just weighed mine and it is spot on 1Kg. And it is not flimsy. Battery life is good and it uses very little in standby mode, so under normal conditions it 'starts' very quickly. No touch screen of course.

If you want to see it for yourself, come to the Coronet about 9 pm today Wednesday, as I will be there.

I'm getting a 10" Archos for a family member, great value at £129. If you don't know the brand name, don't be put off, they're quite alright.

For the last few days I have been getting a dark blue screen with white lines flashing for a micro second before new pages on on all threads. his is on my iPad.

It is putting me off posting Angry

It's still doing it and getting right on my f**king tits. Anyone else with an iPad having the same problem?

If you put it on one of the threads here https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/site_news_feedback/ Mark or Aaron might see it and be able to help.

Cheers Zooo, will dooo.

Updated my old PC to Windows 7 (from XP), and now the network card doesn't work. Tried a few drivers, but nothing works. Annoying.
