Computer just died again. Wouldn't start up first few attempts despite showing was charging, then eventually got far enough to be offered a system reinstall that looked like something from the late 80s. Will have to take computer to some random shop and hope they don't wipe it. Also have a terrible nostalgic yearning to play Double Dragon

Take it to Bill and play Double Dragon with him.

I don't actually want to play Double Dragon, I was shit at it. My friend always had to do the big jumps for me

I was more a Streets of Rage man.

It's not visibly broken, just that the charge keeps going (it's always got charger in). Bought a new charger about a month ago which worked fine for a few weeks, so think must be a dodgy bit in the connection part. If that makes sense. It's been better but still bit wonky since it died t'other day. Might ignore it for a bit longer

I assume it's a laptop?

Your symptoms are those of a failed battery.

You can normally buy new Batteries, but you have to make sure you get exactly the right model. It will be printed on the battery itself.

Find your original instruction book if you can't see how to disconnect/remove the battery; it is usually fairly obvious once you realise that the battery is shaped, to complete the structure of the laptop.

See if the laptop runs OK with the mains charger in, but after you have taken the battery off.

So how are you viewing responding on this forum with a dead computer?

On your phone?

Using someone elses- even I'm not daft enough to mistake a computer for being dead when I'm using it to write on the interwebs!

But all my everythings are on my computer, and turns out other people need to use their computers too, so called some company but no-one picked up. Will try again Tues and just sulk until then

Ah, I was not being derogatory, just really wondering how you were connecting.

I need help! Can anyone advise what the best thing to do in this scenario...I have sky TV, just bought my kids a TV each for their rooms (sick of the arguments!) and gives me some peace Pleased they have built in freeview but what aerial do I get? As yet there is zero reception. I've rang the helpline and was told 'maybe' an indoor aerial will work but if not will have to get an outdoor one...anyone got any suggestions?

You can put one in your loft I think? Get them for about £20. Not sure you have to buy an expensive "digital aerial" but I could be wrong?

Here's one - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5356443.htm?CMPID=GS001&_$ja=tsid:11527|cc:|prd:5356443|cat:home+entertainment+and+sat+nav+%2F+televisions+and+set+top+boxes+%2F+television+aerials+and+boosters+%2F

Here's another:

Cheers Lee...will give it a go.

Does where you live have a shared aerial with other flats/houses? Cos if so you may need to get the council to connect you up for additional thingies. Obviously I am too much of a f**ktard to actually know what I'm talking about, but check first before spending money

No shared aerials as far as I know and am reluctant to put one outside as it's a shared ownership house...thought I could plug in and switch on and away I go...pooey to all this messing about Angry

Are there any classified ads in your local paper that would do a no charge call out? that's how I found my computer fixing guy and he is the bees knees.

Think you can get indoor digital aerial but, from experience, don't keep them near concrete walls as I never got a good reception in any flat. It was okay in the brick-built house though.

I had something like this one: http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/170604091282?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla

which was alright but nowhere near perfect (even with the booster on it). But it does depend on the building type and the signal in your area. If the analogue's been turned off in your area, the theory is that the digital signal should get boosted so everyone can get it. I'm not in one (we're very last to be turned off) so I can't say whether it's better or not, sorry.
