I was thinking of something that would save the video to a flash drive or (large) SD card, without the use of a computer. Self contained. It has to be able to record a good 8-10hrs too.

Suddenly, and for no apparent reason, my TV remote stopped operating the TV. A change of batteries didn't help.But strangely, the Virgin box remote has started to operate the TV, which it's never done before. What might be happening? I've tried disconnecting various things,turning things off, but nothing seems to help at the moment. Further attempts will be made, but what is likely to be wrong? I'm not sure what to suspect;is there a fault with the TV, the TV remote, the Virgin box, or its remote, or the connection, or something else?
...and having just switched everything off at the mains, it's all working again...for the moment.

Make sure the batteries in both remotes are good for a start as remotes, especially the Virgin one, can do random stuff when the batteries are failing. Virgin remotes can be used to operate the volume control of your TV (if programmed to) but they shouldn't do much else (if anything).
Also, make sure your TV remote doesn't have a VCR/DVD switch that has been moved.

TVs have a form of ROM and a power surge can sometimes clear it or mess with the default settings. Power surges and outages are common at this time of year.
The past few days my wifi signal has been dropping or going really slow. It's only doing it on the Mac Mini though. I've tried changing channels but that's not helped. It actually hasn't done it today. But anyone know of any reason it would do that?
