Some friends of mine used to cover these songs and I think they were pretty special:

I'd only heard Cher doing that before but was quite impressed. What's next?
Ruby, don't take your love to town - Kenny Rodgers et al
In the ghetto - Elvis
I'm gonna get me a gun - Cat Stevens
Top Marianne Faithful songs. Top man DaButt!

She's had a rough life, but she was quite a looker back in the day. I could watch her all sprawled out in "The Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus" for hours.

More so than her wooden "Girl on a Motorbike" role.
Her singing voice developed into a blend of silk and sandpaper and she uses it very well. Great vocal interpretation, great stage presence, extremely watchable.
I'm a fan.
Quote: DaButt @ January 27 2009, 11:35 PM GMTAbsolutely. From what I've read and heard from many UK residents, home-invasion robberies (crooks entering an occupied dwelling) and random physical assaults on the street are not uncommon. We have plenty of break-ins here, but the burglars almost always choose a building that they've determined to be unoccupied because they're worried that Mr. and Mrs. Homeowner will blow their heads off with Daddy's shotgun.
Most home invasions here take place in drug dealers' houses where the bad guys expect to find the other bad guys armed as well.
There's a very good chance that the nice old schoolteacher in line next to you at the grocery store is carrying a pistol in her purse. It's a deterrent that keeps a lot of street thugs at bay.
If a burglar broke into someone's house around here and was ejected from the property at gunpoint, the likelyhood is that burglar would return one quiet night and petrol bomb the place in retaliation.

Same here. Her performances make me dizzy.

In my neighborhood they wouldn't be ejected. If they were lucky they'd be hauled off to jail by the police. If they were unlucky (and the police like it that way) they would be carried off in a pine box.

That's the dichotomy.
People are, rightly so, afraid of retribution. I'm not sure what they fear most, retribution or the associated paranoia.
Thank goodness I'm not a psychologist, although I'm in two minds about becoming a schizophrenic.

Dead men tell no tales. And they're also not very good at retribution, either.

That's a kind of "shoot first, ask questions later" scenario isn't it.
There's always the chance that their aggrieved next of kin will pick up the baton....

You can always legally shoot first and ask questions later if someone is breaking into your house. It might be wise to make sure it isn't one of your kids sneaking through the window because they've lost their key, but if you hear shattering glass or crunching door frames you're probably better off just blasting away.
As for next-of-kin, if you blast a gangbanger or someone likely to retaliate you can count on a very heavy police presence near your home until they get the hint that it'd be a bad idea to extend the feud.
I understand your views and comments DaButt but I have no empathy for your gun culture.
I live in rural England where people tend to respect each other and their property. Robbery would be extremely easy because of this but it just doesn't happen for the same reason.
Honestly, the term "gun culture" can only be applied to a certain segment of American society. That society lives by the rules of the street, sees money as the ultimate goal and uses crime to reach that goal. Mr. Average American may have a gun, but it is not part of his everyday life and it simply sits in a closet or drawer or safe or holster until the time it might be needed.
America is an incredibly peaceful place where people are friendly and treat each other with respect. The 1% of the population that runs with a gang, sells drugs and/or lives a life of crime is what plagues the rest of the nation. We just keep locking them up and that's the only solution I can think of.

Again - I find that incredible. What if it was some impressionable 15 year old kid on a dare? What if it was a mentally-ill person looking for shelter? Or a desperate homeless person who thought your property was empty and was looking for a bed for the night? Do they deserve to die for making a mistake?
When I was a kid for a dare I broke into my neighbour's sidehouse and stole some rhubard he was growing in there. Presumably in the US he'd have had the right to put a bullet in my head? It's crazy.
