Big Brother is watching you

What would you say if somebody was intercepting your private emails and keeping them to read later? Would you be angry? Outraged even? Well get used to it because as of March, the government is forcing broadband providers to do exactly that.

Time to start writing letters paper letters again? I've got nothing to hide but that's not the point. This is supposed to be a free society we live in. We already can't walk twenty feet past our front doors without being spied on by CCTV cameras, and now this? It's outrageous. Does anyone else feel this way?

These measures are supposed to prevent terrorism, but the govt has said that small ISPs will be exempt. So Mr Terrorist just goes with one of those, surely?

Well it's coming in from Europe so we haven't much of a choice.
It is sinister and wrong.

Terrorism has always been and always will be beaten by building strong links with communities and people.
All the government will do is produce more data than they can ever sort through.
Besides Al Quaeda stopped communicating by e-mail years ago.

I hate these c**ts who say "Well if you've got nothing to hide, why should it bother you?" It's wankers like those that'll have us all tagged and electronically chipped like farm animals before you know it.

To be fair, this is supposed to be a record of an e-mail's metadata (time, date, to whom, from whom), and not the actual message content.

But yes, it's the principle of the thing, and it's f**king disturbing in the extreme.

This is the stand-out sentence from that article for me: "They must make it available to any public body which makes a lawful request."

So when you've dropped litter, the council will go and find out who you've been e-mailing.

But hey, what does one expect from this government? We should be used to it after almost 12 yers.

(And yes, I know it's from Europe, but the bunch of Scot c**ts in Westminster could have blocked it if they wanted to.)

But it's been going on for years. It's only now they're publicly acknowledging it.

One of my latest characters is obsessed with people saying 'hot' words during his mobile phone calls because of the monitoring by certain listening posts.

I don't think it's got anything to do with 'this government' Aaron. It'd be the same whoever was in power. Same people would be pulling the strings.

I'm absolutely convinced that my phone calls with a good friend have been monitored for years. Everytime I speak to him - and I do mean every time - there's a click on the line like someone picking a receiver up in another room. This has been going on for years and years, despite using different phones / addresses etc. I personally think it's because we regularly discuss terrorism, conspiracy theories etc, so we must be using "hot" words like "bush" and "bomb" and suchlike. I might sound paranoid but I can't think of any other explanation for the click noise. There just isn't one.

Another of my phobias and lurking horrors is the day they say ChipnPin is too easy to counterfeit so let's remove crime by putting the chip into people. On that day, I'll be buying extra strength paracetomols. I am a free man, not a postcode, sort code, and account number.

In fairness Thatch and co liked this spying business just as much.
When Shami CHakrabati is siding with the Daily Mail, you should start worrying. There seems to be a growing acceptance of control and bullying in our society in general.

The technology for monitoring calls is so advanced you wouldn't hear a click.
