Is it? A (Irish) production company have got back to me and haven't read my sitcom script (having said they would in December) due to the downturn in the industry in the last few months. Said sitcoms deemed too expensive by Irish public service broadcaster as opposed to sketch shows. Do you think the economic climate had limited writing opportunities in the UK or will the cream always get produced?
One other thing, thought sketch shows would cost more to produce due to extra sets/locations etc?
I would have thought they'd mention it in their rejection letters for Comedy Lab if they were scrapping it - the one pasted on the comedy lab thread doesn't hint at it. Then again, I guess things are changing very quickly at the mo.
And didn't Mr Stott say that he knew of at least one lab commission?
They'll probably just slim it down and take far fewer risks over the coming years.
