Comedy show idea

AROUND THE WORLD AND BE HOME FOR TEA

I have an idea for a comedy which may be deemed appropriate in these credit conscious times.

The concept is based around all those places you see around your home town that use famous landmarks and places in their names. For instance, near to me in Peterborough we have the Pyramid Centre, a run down shopping precinct without a triangle in sight, the Broadway Theatre which was recently advertising The Lady Boys of Bangkok. There's the India Gate takeaway which is on a side street by the library and the Hollywood hairdressers in the Fenland backwater of Crowland.

I see a Charlie Brooker type character (Screen Wipe) being the traveller and generally devaluing the world's tourist attractions in favour of those closer to home because it means you avoid airport taxes and contracting an unpleasant disease. It also means you can get back in time for EastEnders (should you want to).

A spin-off would be to compile regional or town specific travel books so that readers can visit these 'attractions' too.

Not really doing it for me I'm afraid stuumble. As describeed it sounds a bit like one of those remaindered books you see after Christmas - but perhaps I'm missing the point. Maybe you could throw up a few proposed scenes which might make it live a bit more?

Mark Steel's got a new show coming up called "Mark Steel's in Town" which I read something about and then mostly forgot. But from what I remember it has some similarity with this idea.
