Hinge And Bracket

I've just been watching the Gala Evenings (it was a sitcom as was Dear Ladies) but, seeing them again after many years, just how did they do that? :)

I went to see them live whenever they came to Wolverhampton and made the mistake once of arriving after they had started . . . . . . . . ground open up and swallow me !

Fabulous entertainment but, did you need to know the songs first to appreciate them fully ?

Pleased

I wouldn't describe Hinge & Bracket's Gala Evenings as a sitcom!

And yes, I think you do need to know the songs.

Aren't they dead?

Aren't they dead?

Patrick Fyffe died in 2002 but I believe that George Logan is still alive.

Def.

They weren't women?

Yowzer!

Yes, this is correct. There's an interview with George Logan on the Dear Ladies Series One DVD.

Dear Ladies is another comedy I need to put on my wish list. I used to watch it back in the 1980s and used to enjoy the exploits of Hinge & Bracket.

They seemed quintissentially British. I couldn't imagine any other country in the world having a show with men dressed as women. Still, they had a certain charm.

I wasn't expecting much when I watched, but the cutting wit and barbed retorts are a delight.

And it was co-written by Gyles Brandreth.

Australia's one of the colonies, so they're pretty much British. As is America, another colony. Pleased

We should have a "Funniest Men Dressed As Women?" thread. Look into that someone.

The Kids In The Hall dressed up as women an awful lot too.

Yes, all right, my You Only Get Trannies In British Comedy theory has quickly been disproved. You can't expect me to actually think about half the things I post, though.

Except she's not really funny.

She was a babe when young, though.

Always thought these were terrible.
