The Hollywood sign originally said "Hollywoodland" when it was installed in 1923. The last four letters were deleted when the sign was refurbished in 1949

Me being an electrician I once saw a person who had wired their own 13A socket at home and had run the earth wire into a plant-pot on the windowsill, explaining that the book they used said the green wire must go to earth. Then I see this picture.
