He was the King of glum. The quote that sticks in my head was from the blood donor, words to the effect "I'm not giving you a pint ! That's very nearly an arm full."

And G&S were adamant that it had to be just that, with "very" being the key word, as they explained in an interview I saw some time ago. "An armful" wouldn't have been right at all, and even "nearly an arm full" was not as funny a "very nearly an arm full".
A script writing master class, that some people could well take heed of. Sharpen, sharpen, sharpen, until it is perfect.

"Her perceptive aura's gone for a burton "
Kills me every time 🤣
Yes, one of my favourite episodes, and many years ago, completely out of the blue, my son's school drama group put this on one evening, and I have to say, they were very good!
But my favourite line is "Tin Can? Yes, let's see, I think I'll lean up against the fireplace with one arm up, suggesting the lid's been left open." 😆 Love it!
Love it when Sid is on the verge of knocking out 'Gwweggowee'
🤣
Quote: lofthouse @ 13th June 2023, 8:23 PMWhy did Bill Kerr never feature in any episodes?
Just watched The Photographer on BBC4
Near the end there's half a dozen newspaper reporters taking photos of Hancock
I'm sure one of them is Bill Kerr? It's sounds just like him (he has a couple of lines)

He's not listed in any of my books on the subject, so it must be a coincidence.
But it sounds EXACTLY like him!
Same dopey Aussie accent
Seems an odd coincidence
Just checked. Yes, definitely an Australasian accent, but I don't recognise him. Definitely not Bill.
Cool
I did think it was odd
Bill was never in any of the TV programmes - he was long gone in Hancock's "cull", as was Hattie, which on reflection was a shame.
A small time Canadian actor Murray Kash is listed as being in "The Photographer" and that maybe who you thought was Bill - similar looking.
What I did notice in the "Alpine Holiday" was when they were in the aeroplane, the man reading a magazine sitting behind Hancock a couple of rows back, was Alan Simpson.
A great one tonight where Hancock has an airfield at the end of his garden.
Lots of corpsing and I recognised lots of famous faces in the string quartet plus Dick Emery.

Not at £41 for a haircut, no. I shall stick to my local man at £10 for OAPs.
Might treat myself to a mug of tea and a pie from Fred's Pie Stall though.
"The Cruise", ( and like Kenneth Williams in 'The Alpine Holiday') is I believe the only surviving BBC TV episode featuring Hattie Jacques, which seemed a bit strange at first, having just listened to a number of the radio series with her as Grizelda, especially as in this she is trying to get The Lad into bed!
Sid persuades Tony to take a cruise, as it is a fact that they are always full of crumpet and it'll be a dead cert that both of them will pull, but despite it being a Med. cruise Hancock refuses to take off his winter clothes as it is October, and so doesn't pull, until Hattie has designs on him - Soooooo funny.
