Kathy Staff RIP

Sad news just in, Summer Wine star, Kathy Staff has died at 80. She played Nora Batty in Summer Wine and also made a name for herself in another Roy Clarke sitcom, as a regular in the shop in Open All Hours, RIP Kathy.

Very sad news indeed and she was still in Summer Wine I believe so how will they write her out of the show.

I question how much longer the show can realistically go as the older original cast keep dying off.

Peter Sallis can never die, who will voice Wallace?

:( RIP

KATHY
You'll never get me going to Heaven in no wrinkly stockings, nope, never, no siree.

CUT TO:

KATHY IN HEAVEN WITH WRINKLY STOCKINGS.

Poor old Nora Batty. :(

a) The same way they wrote Foogy out? Or Compo?

b) Character actors keep getting older like everyone else, so there are plenty of older actors to cast in roles, new and old. I think the Boosh will end up in LOTSW. Russell Brand too, as Compo resurrected, clearly.

QED!

:)

How did they write Compo out, I don't watch it religiously/

Plus was she hard to work with because I heard Peter Sallis on the radio saying it was sad but he didn't really love her.

Kinda a strange thing to say I thought.

I think it's sad but I didn't love her either!

Compo was written out as having died! And his son came to live in his hovel. Interestingly (or not, if you hate the show) his (Bill Owen's) real life son took the part!

I am not a huge fan of the show but it's nice to see older comedy actors getting jobs in a hit show (I think).

As for Kathy Staff being difficult to work with.. maybe she was a method actor? Dunno!?

It's obvious that Sallis is the show's star, and it probably won't end until he dies. Just like Cheers ended, because it's star, Ted Danson, wanted to concentrate on films.

It's an ensemble cast so I think it could survive even Sallis pegging it.

Long live Sallis, mind you!

*doffs cap*

:( Whatever the woman was (God Bless her) Nora Batty was an inspired character. I've re-watched LOTSW quite a bit recently (thank you G.O.L.D.) and have come round to the gentle comedy. I like the idea of Old Men Behaving Badly...

Peter Sallis said in the 30th Anniversary documentary that he would to die "during" the show's run, rather than it end before hand.

But isn't Roy Clark in his fifties? I think John Sullivan, in his early 60s, his older than him. I think he started Summer Wine when he was quite young.

He'll be 79 in January.
