Stupid Question Number 1 - NewsRevue Page 2

Thanks a lot for your answers.

17 quid. Wow.....better than working at Woolworths I guess.

With all this money talk - what can you expect to earn for other things? Say God is on your side and you get a sitcom accepted?

I hope you're going to pay tax on that.

Sure...

That seems very low. My experience of having 8 weeks of one sketch and 2 weeks of another has normally been around 40 quid, even just at the Canal Cafe.

They screwed me. When I used to write for them, I had one or more things in almost every show for eight months, but I only ever recieved one cheque. For six pounds. I didn't complain or anything though, as I wasn't doing it for the cash. Though the cash would have been nice.

Send your scripts to me then.

And don't forget Treason Show is looking for very similar stuff, so always send to them too. They've got useful writing guidelines on their website, and also tend to give more feedback to new writers whose work they like.

Although this is a tougher month to get in, as it's a "best of" show, and most of it will be stuff they liked from earlier in the year.

I've been writing for a year and I've been paid upto date at each time.

I think they had some problems with admin a while ago.

That said it's a share of the profits, based on how much material they use and how often. So it's not a fixed amount.

But basically if you get something in for 2 weeks you'll get paid, and if it's less than you'll get paid when you've got enough in.

I know it was a mistake, I'm just recounting my experience. They got a lot for very little, for practically nothing in fact, but I'm not bothered, I wasn't doing it to get paid, just for the thrill of having a real show performing my stuff. I'm sure everyone these days gets the money they're owed. In fact, they got everything they ever used of mine completely free, I never even bothered to cash that paltry, and just plain wrong, six pound cheque!

Matthew, that's really bd, but. if you weren't doing it for the cash, then fair enough.

You should have got more than the "ill octopus" though.

The rates of pay always changes depending on tmes used/audience numbers etc.

Uncannily enough, the LESS I get in, the MORE I get paid. strange, that!

The moral of the story is that you couldn't LIVE on NR payments. It's just a writig credit you can put on your CV and some pocket money...

...which ANNOYINGLY enough, IS liable to tax, which I DO pay, so I hope there are no tax dodgers here. :(
