Oliver Postgate RIP Page 2

By a strange if slightly dull coincidence, the knowledge that Emily was the girl in Bagpuss earned me a point in a 'quiz' last night.

I can't believe I even bothered typing any of that.

How sad. I will give all my Bagpuss(es?) an extra hug tonight. What is the collective noun for Bagpuss? Bagpi perhaps, like catus/cacti.

I have all the Bagpuss programmes on video.

I loved the soup dragon in the clangers.

Man was a legend, came to out school once.

A whole school? He was quite militant in his sexuality too then? :P

It is sad to hear he's gone. Will YouTube for some Clangers. Bagpuss was is crowning moment though. Genius and agree with Chip in poignant.

Ha! I'm not one for cuddly toys at all (my teddy ended up covered in safety pins and a necklace of chicken bones) but I do have a couple of Bagpi (well I did, they have anew owner in the house now). I'm also pleased to have introduced the Bagpuss series to some members of the next generation.

I made the mistake of admitting that I liked him and was then bombarded with all sorts of memorabilia over the years.

Strange really, when I mentioned how much I liked chocolate I wasn't bombarded with that.

Loved Bagpuss, but loved Ivor The Engine even more.

RIP :(

Gutted. A legend.

RIP :(

That sucks, I never watched his stuff but it sucks when someone who was involved in much of your childhood dies.
As a side note it looks really interesting to watch. I would have liked to have seen more of how is studio work was done.

:( He had a hand in all of the kids' programmes which my dad insisted Andy and I watch when we were little - probably just so that he could re-watch them with us - but in either case they were a huge part of my childhood too. RIP. :(

Sad news. Pssshhtt-eku, pssshhtt-eku was one of my fave kids TV noises along with the windmill turning in Trumpton.

Stoppit - I'm ill and it hurts when I laugh.

When I hear Postgate narrating Bagpuss I am seven again. True.

From the BBC site today:

"I had the privilege of meeting Oliver Postgate a number of times back in the '70's as a friend lived next door to him in Blean, Canterbury. I remember being invited to have afternoon tea with him, and he very kindly gave my two sisters a clanger each."

RIP Oliver. We won't TV programmes like this again.

I loved the magical, million miles away worlds he created! I assume that kids today still like watching those old shows?

RIP.
