Hey it's good this iPlayer thing isn't it? It even lets you download the programmes to watch on your Mp4 player. I didn't know you could do that. I've got about 8 hours of stuff to catch up on now. That's me sorted on the train!
Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe - Writers' special Page 6
Quote: Griff @ December 6 2008, 1:46 PM GMTJust watched this show right the way through thanks to the miracle of iPlayer. F**king brilliant.
Matt - yep, I'll get onto those later series of Seinfeld. I mean, I still haven't even seen the famous Soup Nazi.
I envy you then - that you've still got so much good comedy to come.
Having a bugger of a weekend writing the new pilot, Seefacts. Am thinking about my screenplay, for one thing... I'm a prick but I don't actually have to prove myself to anyone anymore. Fine to hate me, but, well, f**k you with your shit scripts people (not Seefacts, who can write, but the others who have sent their bad scripts which I have read...) God, there are so many bad writers around. I am simply lucky I am not one.

Come on Mr. Grumpy, chin up.
Screenplay? What, like a film?

Giz a cuddle.

Doing the 1st draft is painful. Do you want to write instead? I have the key scene now involving the supermodel's cat having to "dance" around in human clothes in a dogs' private club?
Jesus!

If you've got a plot written down and some portion of script, email it over and I'll start.
I've just started coming up with stuff for my next pilot so I'm flowing at the moment.
And remember what Linehan says - the first draft is toilet paper.

I always find the first draft easy. I'm not saying my first drafts are any good, but they're easy.

Go on then, Snuggles Stott!

I find getting a plot, and one that works being the hard part.

I don't release bad drafts.

Yeah, that can be tricky, I always have have an initial plot thought through before I actually start writing. I used to get an idea or two and jump right in, but I've learned that it pays to have a few foundations laid before you start proper. If I have that in place then the first draft comes out fast. Again, I'm not saying it comes out funny, but it comes out quick!
Quote: Griff @ December 7 2008, 12:13 AM GMTBlimey.
What's ace about Tim is on the phone he's an honest, intelligent and funny bloke. And on here he's, well, nuttier than a squirrel's fart.

Yeah, I'd agree with that.
I'm very much a plot-martyr. I don't want to just conjure something up, I want it to really feel natural and honest. So maybe it's something that happened to me, or something I read.

We're probably quite different in that respect then; I don't use personel experience, I just sit, or walk, or lean on something, until an idea that makes me snigger drops into my head. Even if it's a very cartoon-y, silly, breaks-the-laws-of-physics idea.

That's my style yeah, but in my head I really want the plot to be more than that.
I could never do a Linehan style 'Man who looks like a magician' plot because it's so out there and detached from everything.
