Sorry, I work for a living.
Jeff Stelling: New host of Countdown Page 2
Quote: Paul W @ November 21 2008, 4:13 PM GMTPeople from Hartlepool hung a monkey they thought was a french spy like 200 years ago - hence why it's a really funny joke to piss my mate off with when I'm drunk
They didn't really lynch it because they thought it was a spy. It was probably just the easiest way of putting it down.
Speaking of English nicknames, have you heard the story of how people from Wiltshire (I think) became known as "Moonrakers"?
Unbelievable Jeff!

Good, I don't like him on Countdown.
Well done Jeff.
Richard Keys departure has left the door open for Jeff to come in and present a lot more football shows, and he loves football so the decision must have been easy.
Present a mundane show full of geeks and weirdos while pretending to really enjoy it Versus presenting an exciting live sportscast that you thrive on?
Twas never in doubt.
Michael Barrymore should launch his comeback as the new host.
Would be nice if they got somebody with charisma and a discernible personality.

Good idea, although there's a good chance the word "pool" or "swimming" might pop up every once in a while.
Alexander Armstrong should do it.
He has proven beyond doubt that he can do twee daytime quiz shows with his exemplary work on Pointless.
The way he grinningly suppresses his rage every time one of his plebby contestants displays the profundity of their ignorance is masterful to behold.
Quote: Richard Wells @ November 21 2008, 9:35 PM BSTI'm pretty disappointed overall.
I would have preferred either John Sergeant or Biggins as presenter.
I think they were both approached.
They would be good! Especially Sergeant.
