Story Ideas

Hi, i've been planning/ writing a sitcom for a while now (i want to film it myself) i have characters, funny dialogue and small amounts of narrative but i am really struggling in the main storyline area.

I could write enough material for a 20-30 minute pilot but i'm finding it hard to ground it with a main storyline, i suppose i just have subplots really!

It's two young guys living in a house together, anyone have any ideas for storylines or where to get inspiration?

Thanks very much

Gully

Has anything funny ever happened to you? Anything funny ever happened to anyone you know? Use that as a starting point.

Do you mean a narrative running through the series?

I suggest keeping it simple. One of the guys is after a girl, the other has just lost one. I struggle with this too. They say to read small articles in newpapers/mags and expand on those stories.

no i meant a storyline just for this episode really

yea some of my writing is based around going after a girl already, but say the first episode of peep show for example - that has that formula but then they develop it with both of them going after the same girl, then one goes off with a different girl who he mistakenly believes to have leukemia

i need my basic guy after girl storyline to extend into something more complicated

trying to think of things that have happened to me but my mind has gone blank! this is why i should keep a diary

thanks for the replies :)
