118 118 Need Jokes Page 33

Oops I'm not so much the Oracle as ITVs Oracle.

I know humour is subjective and all that but to my sensibilities there were significantly more duffers in the new lists than in the last ones.

Ah well, damn successful namesakes :P

*gives up*

Well I read all the ones rejected by 118 in one week ignoring the names and with the exeption of the ones that were to offensive I thought they were very good.
I think the issue may be one at 118 118 it's self.

I'm not complaining, just observing that it seems a bit random.

Wistyish, did Graham really tell you you're sending too many rhymers? I must admit I don't take it too well when I try to send in better constructed stuff but then sooty can still average 4 a week when he can easily do better jokes himself if he wanted to.

How many of you actually think that if you sent fewer jokes of higher quality you'd do better?

Yes, he did. But I think I had gone a bit extreme on them - I might have been too influenced by looking at what got accepted, and trying to write to a formula. I think they get such a lot of pun type ones that the comepetition is much greater to get those through, and so if you do different sorts they get more attention.

Hmm. First time I mixed it up well and followed the rules to the letter I got nothing out of 82 for the week. Not even a reserve. I'm curious to know how many you sent them?

If anyone has this list, could they put it up on Sendspace and PM me the download link.

Danke.

One on reserve, but not used. I felt it was one of my weaker jokes as well. Ho hum.

That's too many I think? Imagine having to read down that list, with all the other 100s of other jokes people have sent in.

Although, I noticed some of my jokes I sent in at Christmas have popped up last week, on the reserve list though.

I've been sending in 2/3 at the most, even sending one at a time, when I've just come up with it.

Once a week I send in a dozen or so, all in an email I keep in 'draft' which gets added to as I think up jokes during the week.

Of the four I've sold so far, I would class them all as among the weaker ones I've sent, but they were all 'tame' in terms of content. So I guess I should learn something from that?

Graham did tell me the secret to selling more jokes was mostly about being the funniest (surprise surprise). He said people who send in half a dozen a week often sell as many as people who send dozens and dozens. It's not a numbers game.

I intend to keep sending them at least until we hear the feedback from 118.

I also send about 2 or 3 a day, (Mon to Fri) even if I suddenly think up a big list. On Sat and Sun I don't send any.
