I read the news today oh boy! Page 760

As I understand it, there are sites that are support forums but that are strictly not pro-anna. So it's not encouraged but it is understood. If that makes sense? In a good way anyway. Bah! I can't remember how it was described to me. But it's a good thing anyway. Pleased

Yeeees, but... Who would choose those over the pro ana sites if they were the people who incredibly needed to be on the supportive-of-recovery sites? Obviously, those recovering or lapsing or scared should have those sites, but it still doesn't resolve the quandary of whether all the pro ana sites should be shut down. I dunno :(

Would it be wrong to compare it on some vague level to paedo sites with pics of kids?
Probably.

Pro-anna sites (as I understand) actively offer techniques. They encourage, some are pure evil, others I've heard (from a good source) will try to keep it safe, which I suppose is a good thing. Whilst they're still pro, it's not a negative place where you will be judged, much like any support forum/outlet.

Each site should be judged on it's own merit. Much like this forum, you come here thinking you'd talk about sitcoms but you spend most of your time discussing anything but sitcom.

Probably! If you're only harming yourself then that is technically your right to do so. Probably much more closely correlated with general porn sites re. objectification and unreasonably comparable imagery

Yeah, anorexics and paedos are not all that similar really, are they!
I shall blame the late hour...

Laughing out loud

Michael Jackson looked a bit skinny sometimes. Possibly link?

Absolutely, did you see the link I put up earlier?! Surely no-one that thinks that is desirable is in a state of mind to be consenting to access that. And yet... I am weirdly pro pro-ana after looking at lots of sites. That link shows several images that can be seen in any paper let alone fashion mag let alone advert, and to vilify people who want to be how they feel themselves, no matter how unpalatable it may seem, is gross hypocrisy

is gross hypocrisy

Is definitely what it is, is what it is.

There's absolutely a lot more to this illness than the desire to be thin. These images are just the tip of the iceburg to this or any other similar condition. There's often a history of depression or abuse and that's where the support lies, it's not just as simple as they wanna look like Kate Moss. Strip away these supposedly shocking images and what you have (or hope to have) is a place where like-minded people can interact. Like every other website, ever on the tinternet.

There are twisters in Texas. Is Da Butt safe?

Our tornadoes were 2 weeks ago, please try to keep up. :)

Today's twisters were 300 miles north of here in Dallas. Not even a nasty cloud in sight today.

:D I can just see Da butt doing 'Lets Twist Again' by Chubby Checker!

I'm having real trouble wrapping my head around these 'pro-ana' sites. I think feeding encouraging the twisted views of vunerable mentals and providing advice on how they can further hurt themselves is a crime.

These nutters - and let's face it, they are nutters - need only two pieces of advice -

Eat some chips, bitch.

or

Go and see the head doctor and get some normal pills.

Personally, I'm glad they're an under represented group and with so many people starving in the world, it's sickening to think that affluent Western women choose to deliberately starve themselves in the name of 'beauty'.

Gah, bah and indeed, pah!

Yup fewer at the moment, but increasing in number.

Problem is when you do something for what ever reason is unwise, we become gregarious and drag others in. I worked in a night shelter where the staff made the tea. As some of the Harry Ramps would put surgical spirit in it to cheer up the guys detoxing.

I once visited a hospital to get my brain looked into. And ended up waiting in the wrong bit; it was an intensive intervention unit for anorexia.

The toilets, kitchensm front door everything was locked. And they were special crappers used in some prisons where you couldn't flush stuff away.

One of the saddest places I've ever been.

I don't think the staff were pleased to see me waiting, as I weighed about the same as all the patients put together. And I looked like their nightmare future.

On this one you're dead right. People the drugs work. One of the problems with a current obsession with free choice and individuality.

Anorexia is a clinical condition with very clear indicators.

And now for some good news, I am loving this story -

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-17605770

Eldery couple were flying their small plane, the husband had a heart attack and his 80 year old wife landed the plane after being talked down by the controller.

The husband was dead when she landed - so not a totally happy ending - but still uplifting nonetheless.

:O OH NO! Sad but how brave.

A thread for discussing what's happening in the news, we don't seem to have a specific one. And not just a sneaky way of cribbing ideas for NR/TS.

Bloody hell! They drugged and tethered her to get money from the McCannes.

Is this evil or just numbingly pathetic?

And today she is out.
