Does anyone else find it worrying that people are being arrested for saying offensive things online?
Depends what they said.
I've no idea what that particular case was about, but when it involves harrassing people/saying certain things *to* people, I don't see why it should be treated any differently from saying something in person.

Do people get arrested for being offensive in person? I mean, as distinct from threatening people, or harrassing them. The news story is vague, but it sounds like he said something racist about dead soldiers.

Yeah, from what little info was in that link, it does sound like it could be a load of fuss about not much. Like those recent cases of someone Tweeting a joke about bombs before their holiday and then getting arrested at the airport in the US. Ridiculous.

If you say something offensive, whether it is in public or on-line, you should expect the repercussions.
Oh yeah, I agree that being online isn't an excuse to be unpleasant without consequences, but should the police get involved?
