About plans to televise court proceedings in England and Wales.

Quite apprehensive about this, would be interested if anyone agrees with Kenneth Clarke that people will be better informed citizens rather than just turning our legal system and its representatives into a form of celebrity BB or Judge Judy?

Yes I do.
Most tabloid court reporting is a caricature of a trial's
events to convey a well worn cliché about mad judges and magistrates, out of touch with the world, giving daft sentences. Depending on the sentence judges are either looney wishy washy liberals or crazy hangers and floggers.

The Scottish experiment a few years back was very enlightening but talk of expanding it was around the time of the OJ Simpson trial.

Many in the judiciary, who opposed televising trials, muddied the issue with the media circus that surrounds high profile US trials.

We have limits in England about what you can report about defendants before and during a trial but that has nothing to do with televising a trial in a balanced manner.

I just read about the 'conker killing'. I think that those who did it should be strung up.

Oh Christ, it's Newsjack season. ;)

Drunken elk in Sweden

All news channels trying to scare people because US security has been increased for the Sept 11th weekend. That can't really be news, can it?
I want to know why there's a f**k load of police vans down the road and a helicopter's been hovering overhead for over an hour.

They're coming for you, run!

Bugger that for a game of soldiers, they can come and get me

Just lay down in a cupboard and make the f**kers carry you out.

That's what I'd do if I were even on Mantracker.

Heh, Hackney Mantracker. That would be cool

I'd watch it. I'd even go so far as to V+ it.

High praise indeed. Any commissioners want to pay me and Nat to develop it?

Two copters now, and a blimp (probably unrelated unless council resources have been stretched more than we realised)

Jeez, Aj, it's always kicking off where you are. You see more choppers than a Michael Barrymore pool party.

Laughing out loud Great line, but sounds scary. all quiet now AJ?

As quiet as it gets- wait, typed that and heard a helicopter!
There were rumours people were going to try to kick off since it was Mark Duggan's funeral today but haven't seen anything unusually dodgy so far :)

That's a whole different Mantracker episode

On radio4 this morning; Tony Blair regarding 'War on Terror' , 'We are not imposing democracy them' and 'Islamism' 'We have radicalised these people'

Amazing interview with John Humphries.
